Senior Manager, Engineering – Payments

Role Overview

We are seeking a Payment Systems Architect or Senior Technical Business Analyst to lead the design and documentation of complex payment system transformations. This role requires someone who can bridge business requirements, technical architecture, and cross-functional stakeholder management in a fast-paced enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Design

• Design end-to-end payment authorization and capture strategies across multiple channels (e-commerce, point-of-sale, call centers, B2B)
• Create comprehensive Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) documenting system context, business flows, technical sequences, and implementation considerations
• Define integration patterns between payment providers, order management systems, and downstream fulfillment processes
• Architect webhook handling, event-driven flows, and asynchronous payment processing patterns

Technical Analysis & Problem Solving

• Analyze complex payment scenarios including multi-capture, split payments, authorization lifecycles, and cancellation strategies
• Evaluate trade-offs between different authorization types (FinalAuth vs PreAuth), payment methods, and network-specific requirements
• Design error handling, retry logic, and edge case management for payment failures
• Assess cost implications of different approaches (network fees, authorization strategies, transaction timing)

Stakeholder Management & Communication

• Lead technical discussions with cross-functional teams (frontend, backend, operations, business stakeholders)
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications and vice versa
• Ask probing questions to uncover hidden requirements, risks, and implementation gaps
• Facilitate decision-making when requirements are ambiguous or conflicting

Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Create detailed technical documentation including system diagrams, sequence flows, business process diagrams, and data mappings
• Document assumptions, open questions, and decision rationale
• Maintain clarification logs and track outstanding items with external vendors
• Produce documentation accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences

Required Skills & Experience

• Technical Foundation (5+ years)
• Payment processing fundamentals: Authorization/capture flows, tokenization, card network operations, settlement processes
• System integration: REST APIs, webhooks, event-driven architectures, asynchronous processing
• Enterprise architecture: Distributed systems, legacy system integration (AS400/mainframe experience beneficial), microservices patterns
• Data modeling: Payment state machines, transaction lifecycles, idempotency patterns
• Business Analysis (3+ years)
• Requirements gathering and analysis in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
• Gap analysis and impact assessment for system changes
• Process mapping and workflow optimization
• Cost-benefit analysis and business case development

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills

• Strategic thinking: Ability to see "big picture" while managing technical details
• Risk assessment: Identify edge cases, failure scenarios, and mitigation strategies
• Critical questioning: Challenge assumptions, identify missing requirements, surface hidden dependencies
• Decision frameworks: Evaluate options systematically using cost, risk, complexity, and customer impact

Communication & Collaboration

Lead technical meetings and facilitate productive discussions

Translate complex technical concepts for business audiences

Write clear, concise documentation with appropriate level of detail

Comfortable working across time zones with global teams

Ability to push back constructively when requirements need clarification

Preferred Qualifications

• Domain Knowledge
• E-commerce payment flows (checkout, cart abandonment, order management)
• Omnichannel retail (online, in-store, call center integration)
• Payment gateway integrations (while specific provider experience not required, understanding integration patterns essential)
• Fraud prevention systems and authentication flows
• Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) or alternative payment methods

Technical Breadth

• Multiple programming paradigms (object-oriented, event-driven, functional)
• Database design and data migration strategies
• API design principles and versioning strategies
• Security best practices (PCI compliance, tokenization, encryption)

Specialized Experience

• Card network rules (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, UnionPay)
• International payment processing and currency handling
• Legacy system modernization projects
• Large-scale payment migrations with zero-downtime requirements

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Rs500,000.00 - Rs600,000.00 per month
