Key Responsibilities
- Lead detailed mechanical design for mobile medical units, expandable vehicle systems, modular structures, and specialized trailers
- Define materials, tolerances, fabrication methods, and manufacturing workflows
- Review and approve fabrication drawings, assemblies, and Bills of Materials
- Prepare and validate DXF, STEP, and other CNC-ready production files
- Conduct or supervise structural and mechanical simulations where required
- Coordinate closely with production, procurement, CNC operators, and workshop teams
- Identify opportunities to improve build quality, manufacturing speed, and material efficiency
- Guide and mentor junior design engineers within the team
Required Technical Expertise
- Strong proficiency in at least one advanced CAD platform such as:
- SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, or CATIA
- Working knowledge of engineering simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation)
- Practical understanding of:
- Sheet metal fabrication and welded structures
- CNC laser cutting, bending, and machining processes
- Manufacturing tolerances and assembly fit-up
- Ability to produce clear, fabrication-ready engineering drawings and documentation
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing, fabrication, or industrial environment
- Demonstrated exposure to workshop operations and CNC-based production
- Strong understanding of design-for-manufacturing principles and production constraints
- Ability to make sound technical decisions that impact cost, safety, and build quality
- Experience guiding or supervising junior engineers is preferred
