Senior Manufacturing Specialist

OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY:
As a Manufacturing Specialist you will be responsible for managing projects aimed at product and process problem-solving and/or improvements, cost reduction, and profitability improvement. You will provide hands-on assistance to the operating departments to help them achieve the mill’s goals and objectives while driving continuous process improvement. We are looking for an individual who is looking to gain development in the manufacturing specialist role and with ambition to move up in 3-5 years within the organization.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT SMURFIT WESTROCK:
  • Determine and implement process changes and/or trials to improve operating efficiency and performance and minimize variation
  • Partner with operations, E&I, and Process Control Engineers to understand all processes and how teams and individuals are involved and impacted at each step
  • Drive continuous process improvement within an operating area through the coordination and management of raw material and other process trials
  • Analyze production processes, methods, and other data and then provide reports containing the data and statistics to enable management to better understand future requirements needed for the manufacturing process
  • Evaluate a specific process, develop an effective solution for improvement, and implement and then test the new production procedures
  • Generate production reporting, create process monitoring report, and perform daily troubleshooting of the process
  • Review and share best practices with peers
  • Regularly communicate process-related data to operations and management in readily consumable way
  • Lead teams of mill employees in Operational Excellence productivity projects
  • Assist operations with PM down day planning and execution as needed
  • Development opportunities include but are not limited to: PM assistant superintendent vacation coverage, proficient on all paper quality tests, and Lean Six Sigma training up to black belt

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
  • Must have minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in an operations role in the paper industry
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering (or Paper Science) is preferred
  • Experience as a front line supervisor/leader in the paper industry is required
  • A strong desire to progress within operations leadership roles
  • Strong problem-solving and process-analysis skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and on time sensitive projects
  • Possess effective communication skills to clearly convey process-related data to operations and management in readily consumable way
  • Proven track record of collaboration within cross functional teams
