Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Role Overview

HUMAIN is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and integration of mechanical systems for AI-enabled data centers, including cooling, HVAC, hydronics, and piping systems. The role ensures that facilities meet the extreme demands of AI, ML, and HPC workloads, balancing thermal performance, energy efficiency, resilience, and sustainability to deliver world-class mission-critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

People Management

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers and consultants in the design of advanced cooling and HVAC systems, ensuring all outputs align with AI workload requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers, promoting technical growth and excellence in mechanical design for high-density computing environments.

Project Governance and Methodology

  • Establish and enforce mechanical engineering standards, frameworks, and methodologies to deliver consistent, high-quality designs across all projects.
  • Integrate risk management, redundancy planning, and sustainability into every design phase to ensure systems remain resilient and future-ready.

Design Execution Oversight

  • Lead the conceptual and detailed design of mechanical cooling systems, HVAC layouts, hydronics, and piping, ensuring resilience under the thermal loads of GPU/TPU clusters.
  • Design and validate advanced cooling technologies, including liquid cooling, chip-to-chiller systems, and modular mechanical skids, tailored to AI infrastructure.
  • Ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with power and automation systems to achieve optimal facility performance.

Reporting

  • Deliver detailed design documentation, performance reports, and risk assessments to senior leadership, providing visibility into cooling efficiency and system readiness.
  • Develop dashboards and technical briefs that communicate mechanical system performance and innovations to stakeholders.

Quality Assurance

  • Implement rigorous QA/QC processes for all mechanical deliverables, ensuring systems meet or exceed industry standards for mission-critical reliability.
  • Oversee commissioning and performance testing of mechanical systems, validating resilience and energy efficiency before operational handover.

Safety, Quality & Environment

  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental standards, embedding sustainability into every stage of mechanical design.
  • Incorporate environmentally responsible practices by minimizing water use, reducing refrigerant emissions, and maximizing energy efficiency.

Continuous Improvement

  • Research and integrate innovations in mechanical design, such as direct-to-chip cooling, advanced airflow management, and AI-driven environmental controls.
  • Continuously refine design practices and tools to optimize system efficiency and adapt to evolving AI workload requirements.

Policies, Processes & Procedures

  • Contribute to the development and enforcement of internal policies and procedures related to mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with international codes and standards.

MIS & Reports

  • Prepare accurate reports, technical submissions, and regulatory documentation to support operational transparency and compliance.

Related Assignments

  • Perform other related duties or assignments as directed to support business objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (master’s preferred).
  • 12+ years of experience in mechanical design for mission-critical facilities, with at least 5 years in a senior role.
  • Proven track record in designing HVAC, cooling, and hydronics systems for AI, HPC, or hyperscale data centers.
  • Expertise in liquid cooling, chilled water, air handling, and chip-to-chiller systems.
  • Familiarity with AI-driven environmental monitoring and predictive control systems.
  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks (LEED, BREEAM) and mechanical system compliance codes.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and CFD simulation tools.
