The Mechanical Engineer will be primarily responsible for the design, installation, and optimization of mechanical systems within buildings — including HVAC, piping, and fire protection systems — ensuring their safe, efficient, and sustainable performance.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
HVAC System Design
- Load Calculation: Perform detailed heating and cooling load analyses based on building use, climate, and occupancy.
- System Selection: Select suitable HVAC systems (e.g., central AC, VRV, geothermal) and ventilation strategies.
- Energy Efficiency: Integrate high-efficiency equipment and LEED-compliant technologies to improve sustainability.
Piping and Fluid System Design
- Gas Piping: Design safe and compliant gas distribution systems.
- Fire Protection Systems: Develop fire sprinkler and smoke control piping layouts.
- Special Systems: Design systems for medical gases, laboratory pipelines, and other specialized applications.
Equipment Selection & Coordination
- Procurement Support: Evaluate technical specifications for chillers, boilers, and AHUs to meet project requirements.
- Space Planning: Coordinate with architects for MEP space allocation and shaft design.
- BIM Collaboration: Use Revit and other 3D tools for multidisciplinary coordination and clash detection.
______________
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct energy audits and recommend system optimization solutions.
- Troubleshoot operational issues (e.g., noise, leaks, low efficiency).
- Implement smart control systems (BAS) and integrate renewable energy technologies.
______________
EHS Responsibilities
- Ensure all mechanical systems comply with OSHA, NFPA, GB, and relevant UAE safety standards.
- Conduct risk assessments for systems involving pressure, gases, and heat sources.
- Inspect construction activities to prevent unsafe or non-compliant operations.
- Verify safety device functionality (relief valves, fire dampers, emergency shutdown systems).
- Deliver safety training for O&M teams, including safe handling of refrigerants and fall protection.
- Ensure all team members are familiar with MSDS and chemical hazard precautions.
______________
Job Interactions and Working Relationships
- Coordinate with Technical / Material Departments to resolve on-site technical deviations.
- Liaise with Stores Department to prepare accurate material reconciliation reports.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with MEP, Structural, and Architectural teams to ensure project integration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred or equivalent in Building Services / Energy Systems Engineering).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent regional certification (e.g., UAE Society of Engineers registration) is an advantage.
- 10+ Years UAE experience in MEP design, installation, and commissioning of building mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, fire protection).
- Experience with BIM coordination, particularly using Revit MEP and Navisworks for clash detection and modeling integration.
- Strong understanding of HVAC system design principles, thermal load calculations, and equipment selection.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA, IPC, and UAE Fire & Life Safety Codes.
- Expertise in energy modeling software (e.g., HAP, Carrier E20, TRACE 700).
- Working knowledge of piping system design for chilled water, gas, fire protection, and specialty systems.
- Understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS), renewable integration (solar, geothermal), and LEED / Estidama sustainability requirements.
Certifications (Preferred):
- LEED AP / Estidama PQP certification.
- HVAC Design and Drafting Certification (ASHRAE or equivalent).
- Health and Safety Training (OSHA / NEBOSH)
