Senior Operations Engineer

The Senior Backup Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and optimization of enterprise backup, restore, and disaster recovery solutions across cloud and on-premise environments. The role ensures data protection, compliance, availability, and recoverability in line with SLAs and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions using Veeam Backup & Replication and Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery.
• Monitor daily backup operations, resolve failures, and ensure high backup success rates.
• Follow up and manage the NON Responding tickets during Shifts
• Perform and validate restore operations, including granular and full-system recovery.
• Plan and execute disaster recovery testing, failover, and failback exercises.
• Define and maintain backup policies, retention schedules, and compliance alignment.
• Investigate and resolve backup performance issues, capacity challenges, and restore failures.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for major backup incidents and implement preventive measures.
• Integrate Backup Solutions with monitoring and ITSM tools.
• Automate reporting, health checks, and routine tasks using scripting where applicable.
• Automate backup reporting required from our customers.
• Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and incident playbooks.
• Support audits, customer reviews, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership within the backup team.
• Participate in on-call rotation and major incident response.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with:

Veritas , Veeam Backup & Replication.

• Experience with virtualization platforms (Hyper-V, VMware).
• Experience with Windows and Linux server environments.
• Storage systems experience (SAN/NAS, snapshots, capacity planning).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, Huawei Cloud, AWS,).
• Knowledge of backup architecture, replication, immutability, and ransomware protection.
• Understanding of disaster recovery concepts (RTO, RPO, failover, failback).
• Strong knowledge in MCSE Course with hands on it
• Veeam VMCE
• Commvault Certified Professional (CCP)
• SAN & NAS storage Certificate Or equivalent

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in backup, storage, or infrastructure operations.

Experience in Managed Services or 24/7 operations environments preferred
