Leadership & Administration
- Manage OT scheduling, bookings, and prioritization in consultation with surgeons and anesthetists.
- Prepare and oversee duty rosters for OT nursing staff, ensuring adequate manpower.
- Supervise and guide OT nurses during duty hours to maintain discipline, safety, and standards.
- Coordinate with the Nursing Superintendent on manpower planning and recruitment input.
- Notify surgical teams promptly about schedule changes or delays.
Clinical & Technical
- Scrub in and act as circulating nurse for complex and emergency procedures when required.
- Ensure OT areas are fully prepared, equipped, and sterile before each case.
- Collaborate with CSSD for timely supply and sterilization of instruments.
- Supervise cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of OT as per NABH standards.
- Support surgeons and anesthetists intra-operatively while maintaining sterile techniques.
- Report intra-operative complications promptly to the medical team.
Safety, Compliance & Quality
- Enforce infection prevention protocols, biomedical waste management, and NABH guidelines.
- Monitor and maintain OT quality indicators (surgical site infection, antibiotic prophylaxis, TAT).
- Conduct periodic audits of checklists, stock registers, and records.
- Ensure OT environment (temperature, humidity, air quality) meets required standards.
Training & Development
- Provide induction and training for new staff on OT protocols and safety.
- Mentor junior nurses and technicians to enhance competency.
- Organize mock drills (fire safety, code blue, disaster preparedness) with quality and safety teams.
- Participate in review and updates of OT policies and SOPs.
Qualifications & Experience
- B.Sc / GNM in Nursing with valid registration.
- Knowledge of NABH standards and infection control practices is desirable.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination skills.
