Senior PHP Developer

About the Role

As a Senior PHP Developer, you’ll join a team building scalable, reliable backend systems that power critical business workflows. This role is for someone who writes clean, maintainable PHP code, understands system architecture, and values long-term stability over quick fixes.

You’ll take ownership of complex backend features — from analyzing legacy systems to implementing modern, scalable solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with frontend engineers, DevOps teams, and product managers to deliver robust applications that perform in production.

What You’ll Be Doing

Design, develop, and maintain PHP-based backend systems — whether modern frameworks or legacy applications.

Analyze and optimize existing codebases to improve performance, security, and scalability.

Build and maintain RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services.

Work with relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL), ensuring proper schema design, indexing, and efficient queries.

Apply strong engineering principles including OOP, MVC architecture, clean coding standards (PSR), and meaningful code reviews.

Troubleshoot complex production issues across the full application stack.

Contribute to modernization efforts, including migrating legacy PHP systems to modern frameworks.

Mentor junior developers through design discussions, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving.

What We Look For

Strong fundamentals in PHP and backend architecture principles.

Deep understanding of OOP, MVC patterns, and PHP design patterns.

Experience working with at least one modern PHP framework (Laravel, Symfony, CodeIgniter) or maintaining custom frameworks.

Ability to analyze and optimize database queries and improve system performance.

Comfortable working with RESTful APIs, Composer, Git, and Linux-based environments.

Strong debugging and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to cross-functional teams.

Our Stack

This role primarily works with:
PHP, Laravel/Symfony/CodeIgniter (or custom framework), MySQL/PostgreSQL, REST APIs, Git, Linux

Nice to have exposure to: Docker, CI/CD pipelines, AWS/Azure, PHPUnit/Pest.

We don’t expect you to know everything — but you should be confident in your PHP expertise and comfortable learning adjacent technologies when required.

Tech-Specific Expectations (PHP Focus)

Strong understanding of PHP internals, memory usage, and performance optimization.

Experience refactoring and modernizing legacy PHP systems.

Ability to enforce PSR standards and maintain clean architectural boundaries.

Comfortable working with dependency management (Composer) and version control workflows.

Experience writing testable code and applying automated testing practices.
