Senior Planning Engineer

GSO Qatar is seeking a highly experienced Senior Planning Engineer to lead project planning, scheduling, and progress control activities across major Oil & Gas EPC projects. The role requires strong expertise in baseline development, critical path analysis, cost-loaded schedules, and performance reporting in alignment with client and contract requirements.

The candidate will play a strategic role in ensuring schedule integrity, risk mitigation, and timely project delivery within Qatar’s Oil & Gas sector.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, review, and maintain Level 3 & Level 4 project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Prepare fully resource-loaded and cost-loaded baseline programs.
  • Establish Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) aligned with EPC scope.
  • Define critical path and conduct delay impact analysis.

Project Controls & Monitoring

  • Monitor project progress and update schedules on a weekly/monthly basis.
  • Conduct variance analysis (SPI, CPI, productivity analysis).
  • Prepare recovery plans and mitigation strategies when required.
  • Support change management and EOT (Extension of Time) claims preparation.

Reporting & Coordination

  • Prepare executive-level progress reports and dashboards for management and clients.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
  • Participate in client meetings and progress review sessions.
  • Ensure compliance with client planning procedures (QatarEnergy, major IOC standards).

Risk & Compliance

  • Perform schedule risk assessments and scenario analysis.
  • Ensure alignment with HSE and quality requirements.
  • Maintain documentation and audit trail for project controls.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related discipline).
  • 10+ years of experience in planning within Oil & Gas / EPC projects.
  • Proven experience in onshore/offshore projects in Qatar or GCC.
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 and MS Project.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, cost engineering, and contract management.
  • Experience working on large-scale pipeline, piping, or process plant projects preferred.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills.

Preferred Certifications

  • PMP Certification (preferred).
  • Primavera P6 Professional Certification.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM).
