Position Summary

The Senior Principal provides intellectual and strategic leadership to the Energy Market Insights (EMI) department. They are responsible for setting analytical priorities, managing high-level stakeholder engagement, and ensuring that EMI delivers timely, relevant, and high-quality outputs. In addition to guiding the department’s content direction, the Senior Principal mentors senior staff, drives innovation, and ensures EMI evolves to meet changing stakeholder needs.

Major Accountabilities

1. Market Analysis & Insights

  • Define priority themes and outputs in alignment with institutional direction and stakeholder needs.
  • Provide intellectual oversight for flagship reports, scenario development, and cross-cutting analyses.
  • Ensure analytical rigor, relevance, and timeliness across all EMI outputs.
  • Help translate complex market signals into actionable insights.

2. Collaboration & Communication

  • Act as a senior liaison between EMI and executive stakeholders.
  • Represent EMI in strategic discussions and cross-departmental coordination.
  • Oversee tasking and quality assurance processes in collaboration with the ED.
  • Lead or contribute to senior-level briefings and high-visibility presentations.

3. Learning & Growth

  • Develop talent pipelines by mentoring Principals and high-potential staff.
  • Shape EMI’s learning agenda and internal upskilling initiatives.
  • Ensure succession planning and role clarity across senior and mid-level team members.

4. Policies, Systems & Processes

  • Lead enhancements to EMI’s workflows, documentation practices, and decision protocols.
  • Ensure department systems are scalable, transparent, and aligned with broader organizational standards.

5. Related Assignments

  • Drive special projects or represent EMI in strategic initiatives across the institution.
  • Support the Executive Director in resource planning and department development.

Qualifications and Experience

Recommended Qualifications and Years of Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or any other related field
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or any other related field
  • PhD degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or any other related field
  • Prior experience of working in a consulting capacity is a must.
  • Experience in the energy sector and/or public policy is preferred.
  • Experience in writing briefing notes, reports and reviews.
