Senior Reconciliation Engineer

As a Senior Reconciliation Engineer at a next-generation spend management and financial operations company, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial accuracy and operational trust of our digital wallet platform. Following our expansion into domestic and cross-border remittances, this role blends deep technical engineering with financial controls expertise, bridging the gap between complex financial flows and automated system logic, ensuring every halala is accounted for across every corridor we operate in.

You will be the architect of our reconciliation integrity. This is a high-ownership role that sits at the intersection of Finance and Engineering. You will own the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our automated reconciliation and exception-management infrastructure. As the company scales, you will be expected to grow this function and, over time, build out the team around it.

Main Responsibilities

Reconciliation Engine Ownership

  • Lead the end-to-end implementation and fine-tuning of automated reconciliation engines (e.g. ReconArt, Gresham, TLM, or bespoke internal tooling).
  • Define and continuously improve matching rule logic to maximise Straight-Through Processing (STP) rates and minimise manual intervention.

Remittance & FX Logic

  • Design automated workflows to handle high-volume cross-border remittances across multiple corridors.
  • Own the reconciliation of Instruction Amount vs. Settlement Amount, accounting for FX spreads, intermediary bank fees, value-date differences, and corridor-specific settlement rules.
  • Develop sophisticated detection logic for 'hidden' fees and deductions that break standard matching.

Data Architecture & Integration

  • Map and transform diverse message formats: ISO 20022 (XML), SWIFT MT103/MT202, SARIE, JSON feeds, and custom CSV bank statements from partner institutions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on API integrations to ensure upstream data quality at ingestion.

Stakeholder Liaison

  • Serve as the primary translator between Finance (GAAP/IFRS requirements, audit readiness) and Engineering (API design, database management, system architecture).
  • Own the definition of functional requirements for all reconciliation-related system changes.

Audit, Control & Reporting

  • Build and maintain reporting dashboards that provide full transparency for internal audits and SAMA regulatory reviews.
  • Establish documented controls and reconciliation policies as we scale toward formal audit and compliance frameworks.

Requirements
  • Experience: 5+ years in a Techno-Functional role within Fintech, Transaction Banking, or a Payments institution.
  • Domain Expertise: Proven track record designing or configuring Remittance Reconciliation systems at scale.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • SAMA Knowledge: Familiarity with SAMA regulations and/or the KSA Open Banking framework is a meaningful advantage.
  • SQL Mastery: Advanced SQL, complex queries, stored procedures, data validation scripts, and performance tuning.
  • Messaging Standards: Hands-on experience with ISO 20022, SWIFT MT103/MT202, and SARIE (Saudi Riyal Interbank Express).
  • Saudi Payment Rails: Familiarity with Saudi domestic payment rails, including mada network operations, switching logic, and settlement flows.
  • EMV Reconciliation: Experience reconciling EMV card transactions, including authorisation vs. clearing discrepancies, chargeback flows, and interchange fee accounting.
  • Financial Literacy: Nostro/Vostro accounting, double-entry bookkeeping, T+0/T+1/T+2 settlement cycles.
  • Reconciliation Tools: Enterprise-grade reconciliation platforms (ReconArt, Gresham, TLM, or equivalent).
  • Python / Data Tools: Python (Pandas, data parsing, automation scripting), valued and will be tested at the interview.
  • Language: Professional fluency in English required; Arabic is a strong plus.
