The Senior Research Assistant plays a key role in advancing ETS's research mission by supporting projects that help power human progress. In this role, you will coordinate and execute multiple phases of research studies while performing connected technical tasks that ensure the quality, integrity and impact of our work. You'll partner closely with internal teams, research staff, and external collaborators to keep projects moving and to maintain the high standards ETS is known for. You'll contribute to developing and refining research instruments; preparing, coding, and analyzing data; synthesizing results; and performing quality checks across project workflows. You'll also support clear, compelling communication by assisting with manuscripts, proposals, presentations, and internal and external correspondence. Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the logistics of multiple phases of research projects, including recruitment, quality checks, data collection, coding, payments, and analytical activities.
  • Identifying project issues or risks, escalating them to senior staff, and proposing thoughtful, solutions‑oriented recommendations.
  • Serving as a liaison between project leads and ETS departments, project staff, or vendors to keep work aligned and moving forward.
  • Coordinating and monitoring payments for study participants, vendors, and consultants with accuracy and care.
  • Identifying, recruiting, and engaging appropriate research sites and study participants.
  • Applying thorough knowledge of ETS policies and procedures-including IRB, participant payment, working with minors, and fairness and quality standards-and advising senior staff on potential concerns.
  • Scheduling and participating in meetings with internal and external partners and ensuring project documentation (e.g., agendas, materials, notes) is accurate, clear, and complete.

Experience and Skills:

Functional/Technical Skills

  • Perform complex and connected research tasks with general guidance from more senior staff.
  • Develop, refine and administer research instruments (e.g., assessments, surveys, observations and interviews).
  • Prepare and process data (e.g., annotation, coding, recoding and manipulation).
  • Perform data analysis, synthesize and interpret results; and design and prepare charts, tables, figures and graphics for reports and presentations.
  • Organize, verify and conduct quality control checks.
  • Instruct staff on procedures for data collection and preparation.
  • Knowledge of research methodology and statistics
  • Experience in writing research reports and/or proposals
  • Experience using data analysis software
  • Proficiency in office productivity software (e.g., MS Office)H
  • High degree of learning agility
  • Collaboration

Communication

  • Communicate with internal stakeholders both orally and in writing using language and terminology relevant to the specific discipline and/or research methodology, and appropriate for the intended stakeholders.
  • Review, edit, and revise proposals, manuscripts, and presentations; conduct literature searches with general guidance from senior staff.
  • Review, edit, and revise internal and external written communications (e.g., school recruitment materials, advisory board communications) and documents (e.g., IRB proposals, internal memos and policies, etc.).
  • Respond to inquiries from internal (e.g., senior staff) and external stakeholders (e.g., research participants, vendors, external collaborators, etc.)

Ethics

  • Adhere to ethical standards and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

Education

  • A Bachelor's degree in an ETS-relevant discipline (e.g., policy, education, psychology, measurement, statistics) is necessary, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Minimum 2 years of research-related experience is necessary.

  • The base salary range advertised represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. The base pay is only one aspect of the Total Rewards Package that will be offered to the successful candidate.
