Senior Resident General Surgery

Job Summary:

We are seeking a committed and competent Senior Resident in General Surgery to join our surgical team. The position involves providing comprehensive care to surgical patients, assisting in and performing surgical procedures under supervision, managing emergency cases, and participating in academic and research activities. This role is designed to develop advanced clinical and operative skills in preparation for an independent surgical career.

Key Responsibilities:Clinical Duties:

• Assist consultants in elective and emergency surgical procedures.
• Independently perform minor and supervised major surgeries as per competency.
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative care to surgical patients.
• Manage inpatient and outpatient services, including surgical rounds and clinics.
• Handle trauma and emergency surgical cases on-call or during duty hours.
• Maintain accurate and updated clinical records.

Academic & Teaching:

• Participate in teaching and mentoring junior residents, interns, and medical students.
• Attend and present at departmental academic activities such as seminars, case discussions, journal clubs, and morbidity/mortality meetings.
• Engage in clinical audits and quality improvement projects.

Research:

• Contribute to departmental research projects and clinical trials.
• Prepare and submit papers for conferences and publications as required.

Administrative:

• Comply with institutional policies, duty rosters, and standard operating procedures.
• Ensure patient safety, infection control, and adherence to medical ethics.
• Participate in medical board reviews and documentation for medico-legal cases, if applicable.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Educational Qualification:
• MBBS and MS (General Surgery) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Registration:

Must be registered with [relevant Medical Council – e.g., NMC (India), GMC (UK), etc.].Prior experience as a junior resident or equivalent post in General Surgery.

• Experience:

Prior experience as a junior resident or equivalent post in General Surgery.

Qualification - MBBS, MS/MD
