Description

The City of Detroit's Department of Transportation (DDOT) is currently accepting applications for the Senior Service Guard General for their DDOT Risk Management division. Under general supervision, the Senior Service Guard General supervises a group of employees engaged in providing security and protective services on municipal property.

Examples of Duties

1. Supervises and organizes the activities of a group of employees engaged in municipal property protection work, including, but not limited to, the patrolling of grounds, building and parks to prevent vandalism, illegal acts and disorderly conduct.
2. Schedules regular and emergency work assignments.
3. Responds to and resolves the more unusual circumstances.
4. Interprets departmental policies, rules, regulations and City ordinances as they apply in unusual instances.
5. Summons and assists police authorities.
6. Informs staff members of changes in departmental rules and of new City ordinances affecting security work activities.
7. Instructs subordinates in the proper execution of their duties.
8. Monitors personal appearance of subordinates.
9. Reviews work performance and records and determines situations requiring special attention.
10. Detects and reports irregularities or special situations.
11. Obtains information relative to cases of vandalism, illegal activity, or immoral behavior on or about municipal facilities in conjunction with members of the police force.
12. Secures evidence for court cases.
13. Recommends to superiors the methods and means of handling and resolving situations.
14. Maintains time and activity records.
15. Individually performs the duties of the work group as required.
16. Assists in writing and/or updating security procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or G.E.D.

Three years of experience as a guard in an industrial, commercial, penal, recreational or military establishment, which must include one year of experience in a supervisory capacacity.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
  • Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
  • At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
  • At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
  • In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
  • An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
  • Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
