Senior Shopify Web Application Developer (10+ Years Experience, Accessibility-First)

Reports to: Technical Team Lead

1. Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Shopify Web Application Developer with 10+ years of

professional experience, who specializes in Shopify and is deeply knowledgeable about web accessibility

(especially implementing non-overlay ADA / WCAG compliant solutions at the code level). This role goes

beyond theme customization to include app integrations, architecture design, performance optimization,

and accessibility-first user experience delivery. You will serve as a technical leader, defining direction,

raising code standards, and mentoring the engineering team.

2. Key Responsibilities

• 
  Architect, design, and build Shopify-based web applications and storefronts (frontend + backend +

infrastructure integrations)

• Develop and customize Shopify themes using Liquid (sections, schema, metafields, etc.)
• Integrate with Shopify APIs (Admin, Storefront), GraphQL/REST endpoints, Webhooks, and build

custom apps

• Work in Shopify Plus / multi-store environments to deliver complex features (e.g. custom checkout

flows, advanced promotions, membership logic)

• Implement headless or Jamstack architectures with React, Next.js, Vue, SSR/SSG where applicable
• Refactor existing systems, optimize performance (loading time improvements, caching strategies, code

splitting, image optimization)

• Lead code reviews and set up/operate CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers; establish coding conventions and development best practices
• Produce technical documentation (API specs, architecture diagrams, operational guides)
• Integrate external systems (payment gateways, ERP, CRM, logistics APIs, etc.)
• Design and implement UI/UX elements in adherence to non-overlay ADA / WCAG accessibility

• Ensure keyboard accessibility, screen reader support, focus management, contrast ratios, alt text,

ARIA attributes, etc. - Build accessibility from the ground up rather than via overlay scripts or bandaid fixes

3. Required Qualifications

• 
  10+ years of professional software/web development experience
• Strong Shopify-centric experience (preferably 5+ years working intensively on Shopify projects)
• Deep mastery of Liquid templating and Shopify theme architecture
• Proven experience with Shopify Admin / Storefront APIs, GraphQL / REST
• Custom app development and theme-app integration experience
• Proficiency in frontend frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue, etc.) in a Shopify or headless context
• Experience with SQL / NoSQL database design and operations
• Proficient at version control (Git) and CI/CD tooling
• Excellent problem-solving skills, architectural design capability, and analytical thinking
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams

4. Preferred / Bonus Skills

• 
  Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS / GCP / Azure) including serverless components (Lambda,

S3, API Gateway, etc.)

• Experience with Docker / Kubernetes for deployments and orchestration
• Handling high-traffic scenarios including caching strategies, CDN integration
• Hands-on experience with advanced Shopify features: Shopify Functions, Checkout UI Extensions,

Web Components, etc.

• Experience building and scaling multi-store / multi-tenant Shopify environments
• Experience in A/B testing, conversion optimization, SEO, performance tuning
• Experience integrating marketing analytics tools like Google Tag Manager, GA4
• Experience with internationalization (i18n), multi-currency, multilingual stores
