Position Summary
The Senior Structural Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all structural designs and construction works are safe, coordinated, buildable, and cost-efficient.
Acting as the developer-side structural authority, this role reviews and optimizes structural systems, grids, and construction methodologies to achieve high constructability, cost discipline, and regulatory compliance. The position leverages strong consultancy and site experience to safeguard project quality and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Structural Design Control & Technical Review
- Review and approve structural concepts, systems, grids, slabs, frames, and foundations.
- Review post-tensioning layouts, load paths, and stressing systems.
- Check structural calculations, design assumptions, and modelling outputs.
- Validate compliance with applicable codes and standards (ACI, BS, Eurocodes, UAE Codes).
- Ensure alignment between structural intent and construction methodology.
- Prevent over-design and technical inefficiencies.
2. Structural System Optimization & Cost Control
- Review concrete volumes, reinforcement quantities, and steel tonnage.
- Identify over-design, inefficiencies, and cost-intensive solutions.
- Propose optimized structural alternatives and value engineering options.
- Support commercial teams in evaluating structural cost implications.
- Maintain cost discipline throughout design development and construction.
3. Consultant, Contractor & Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Coordinate with structural consultants, architects, MEP engineers, and contractors.
- Review and approve structural drawings, BIM models, and specifications.
- Ensure coordination with architectural layouts and MEP systems.
- Identify clashes, access issues, and buildability constraints.
- Lead constructability and coordination review workshops.
- Resolve technical interface conflicts.
4. Tender, Contract & Commercial Support
- Review structural BOQs, specifications, and tender drawings.
- Provide technical clarifications during tender stage.
- Support contractor prequalification and selection.
- Review alternative technical proposals and VE submissions.
- Assist in contract negotiations related to structural scope.
5. Authority Submissions & Regulatory Compliance
- Review and technically validate all structural authority submissions.
- Ensure compliance with Dubai Municipality and relevant authorities.
- Review authority comments and inspection requirements.
- Coordinate responses, resubmissions, and approvals.
- Ensure timely receipt of structural permits and completion certificates.
6. Construction Phase Technical Leadership
- Provide senior-level structural support to site and project teams.
- Review and approve shop drawings, method statements, and material submittals.
- Respond to RFIs and complex technical queries.
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits.
- Monitor critical activities (foundations, PT works, steel structures, major pours).
- Prevent unauthorized structural changes on site.
7. Quality Assurance, Risk & Compliance Management
- Enforce structural QA/QC procedures and inspection regimes.
- Identify technical, safety, program, and cost risks.
- Propose mitigation and corrective actions.
- Minimize structural-related variations, claims, and redesigns.
- Ensure documentation and construction align with approved IFC drawings.
8. Handover & Close-Out Support
- Review and approve as-built structural drawings and calculations.
- Support structural completion and compliance certification.
- Participate in final inspections and defect resolution.
- Ensure completeness of structural handover documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil / Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum 7+ years UAE experience, including:
- At least 5+ years in Dubai
- Strong site-based exposure
- Consultancy background strongly preferred.
- Developer-side experience advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proven experience in residential and mixed-use developments.
- Strong knowledge of RC, PT, steel, and composite structures.
- Proficiency in ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, STAAD.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM platforms.
- Solid understanding of UAE authority processes.
