Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA)
Founded in 1977, CASA is the official 501c3 domestic violence center based in Pinellas County, FL. We operate the area’s 24-hour hotline and emergency shelter; non-residential programs, such as support groups, economic empowerment and legal advocacy; Child Protective Investigative Team support; community and corporate training; and the CASA Peacemakers anti-bullying and healthy relationship school curriculum.
Position Title: Shelter Case Manager
Reports To: Shelter Manager (Assigned to Shift: Day, Evening, or Overnight)
Major Function: To provide case management, advocacy, and crisis intervention to survivors of domestic violence and their children who are residing at shelter.
Illustrative Duties:
- Provide support, advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, and resources to survivors of domestic violence following the empowerment-based advocacy model.
- Answer the domestic violence hotline as well as monitoring the hotline chat to provide quality services to callers.
- Track and document participants entering shelter to ensure population tracking is accurate and updated daily.
- Carry an assigned caseload and meet with each participant on a regular basis to provide resources, advocacy, and ongoing safety planning.
- Participate in ongoing case reviews and case staffing’s.
- Complete all required paperwork, data entry, and monthly reports in a timely manner.
- Provide quality case management to survivors by assessing their needs and goals and help them develop and implement a plan to achieve their goals.
- Effectively respond to situations in shelter per CASA policy and shelter handbook.
- Assist survivors with completing the injunction packet and attend court with the survivor as needed.
- Coordinate transportation for survivors and their children.
- Advocate with other community agencies and the criminal justice system on participant’s behalf as requested by the survivor.
- Perform tasks related to participant intakes and exits, including stocking suites, packing, and storing of resident belongings.
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of all areas designated for use by participants to include sweeping, mopping, cleaning surfaces, taking out trash, sorting, organizing, etc. as needed.
- Facilitate support groups/empowerment-based workshops.
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining the CASA kennel as needed in addition to checking on pets that are housed in the kennel.
- Unpack and sort donations, food deliveries, packages, and other items.
- Assist in providing youth center coverage as well as in other program areas as requested by management.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
General:
- Understand and abide by all CASA’s Policies and Procedures at all times.
- Demonstrate a commitment to treat residents, volunteers, and co-workers in a respectful manner at all times.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Maintain all required training hours annually.
- Agree to work a flexible schedule when required, which may include changing schedules to ensure case management coverage, due to illness, absence, vacation other staff members, or a natural disaster.
- Complete special projects as requested.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma with at least 6 months of related work or educational experience.
- Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, social work, criminal justice related experience, or other crisis related experience preferred.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current community resources and have the ability to maintain working relationships with agencies.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Agree to drive agency vehicles as needed.
- Ability to function independently and work cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Possess a valid Florida State Driver’s License and current automobile insurance to be verified on an annual basis.
- Possess the ability to climb stairs and lift at least 25 pounds.
- Agree to participate in a background check upon employment.
- All employees of CASA are considered “essential” and as such may be required to be available to remain onsite and/or required to assist during emergencies and other critical times.
Available Shifts:
Evening-Sunday to Wednesday from 3pm to 1:30am
Overnight-Sunday to Wednesday from 10pm to 8:30am or Monday to Friday from 12am-8:30am
