Shift Engineer

The Ibri Independent Power Plant (IPP) is a 1,509MW gas-fired power plant located in the Ad-Dhahirah region of northern Oman. Developed by ACWA Power, Mitsui, and Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding, this project utilizes combined cycle gas turbine technology to generate electricity for transmission and distribution to the Main Interconnected System (MIS) grid. It is part of two IPPs proposed by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) aimed at generating a combined capacity of 3,219MW.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supervise the activities and work of the team members during the shift to ensure that targets and objectives are achieved and the business plan is delivered in line with the required policies, processes, procedures and systems.
  • Monitor plant performance and provide operations engineering support dealing with all process / operational related matters and activities during the shift to ensure optimal plant operations in a timely manner.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of shift staff and manage all plant operating activities ensuring they are executed in a safe and efficient manner so that the operational area meets required targets.
  • Review all current work instructions, SOPs, processes and procedures and recommend necessary changes to the Operations Manager, ensuring process efficiency and optimization of resources.
  • Monitor operational performance and make quick decisions to correct abnormalities or disturbances, taking corrective actions during a state of emergency.
  • Coordinate with all other departments for activities that are related to plant operations during the shift and ensure their timely execution as per the plan.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to the team, advise on optimization of operations for each unit in accordance with NOMAC’s HSE policies and procedures to meet required standards.
  • Implement special testing programs as necessary to evaluate and resolve process problems, review operating logs process control printouts, daily/weekly/special reports and participate in the analysis of respective causes of problems, recommending changes or alterations to operating parameters in order to avoid recurrence of problems.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance team during the shift and ensure that any minor / major activities like commissioning and start-up activities are completed in a safe manner, as per the established plan.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all relevant HSSE and permit to work system, instructions and controls and procedures are complied with so that the safety of employees and environmental compliance can be guaranteed.
  • Develop and maintain effective business relationships with all relevant internal departments and external contractors while promptly attending to all critical technical issues in-order to ensure the services required by the organization are delivered in the most effective manner.
  • Represent the plant in all technical meetings to handle any escalated technical matters, to ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Administer SAP processes within the operations section and ensure adherence to SAP guidelines in all related aspects of annual and monthly planning, scheduling, data management such as breakdowns review, corrective maintenance notification, creating work orders and planning in order to ensure data/system integrity in line with NOMAC’s defined standards.
  • Ensure all system documents are up to date in order to comply with NOMAC’s quality standards.
  • Monitor the adherence to all relevant health, safety, security and environmental procedures, instructions and controls so that the safety of employees and environmental compliance can be guaranteed.
  • Ensure that all accidents, incidents or near misses occurring during the shift are properly reported as per established procedures.
  • Manage an emergency during the shift as per the company emergency response plan until relieved by a higher authority, in order to ensure minimum impact of the hazard.
  • Adhere to all relevant organizational and departmental policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out to the required standard and in a consistent manner.
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of change initiatives, programmes and projects in line with the organisation’s standards.


REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • B. Sc Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Worked as Shift Engineer /Shift In-charge in Power Plants for a minimum of 5 years and above.
