Position Overview:

The Shipping Line Rider is responsible for the collection, submission, and delivery of shipping documents—including Delivery Orders (DO), Bills of Lading, and Customs Papers—between shipping lines, freight forwarders, clearing agents, ports, terminals, and customers. The role demands strong time management, attention to detail, and a professional attitude to ensure timely and accurate handling of critical logistics documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Document Handling & Delivery

  • Collect and deliver Delivery Orders (DOs), Bills of Lading (B/L), Gate Passes, and other import/export documents from shipping lines, NVOCCs, terminals, and customs offices.
  • Ensure accurate and secure transfer of all original documents between company departments, clients, and external offices.
  • Submit and collect documents from port authorities, customs, and transport offices as per operational requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive trade documents.

2. Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate daily with operations, documentation, and customer service teams to ensure smooth flow of document handling.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, port authorities, and shipping representatives to confirm document collection or submission schedules.
  • Report any document discrepancies, delays, or procedural issues to the concerned supervisor immediately.

3. Recordkeeping & Tracking

  • Maintain proper logbooks and records of all received and delivered documents.
  • Obtain and maintain signatures and acknowledgement for document deliveries.
  • Assist in preparing daily reports on document movement and DO collection status.

4. Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all document movements comply with company policies and shipping regulations.
  • Follow all safety and security protocols while visiting ports, customs houses, and client premises.
  • Maintain a valid driving license and clean traffic record.
  • Take care of company-provided motorbike and official documents during work hours.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum Intermediate (12 years) of education; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience as a Rider, Messenger, or Document Runner in a shipping line, freight forwarding, or logistics company.
  • Familiar with shipping documentation, DO procedures, and port/customs operations.
  • Must possess a valid motorcycle driving license.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong sense of responsibility and punctuality.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of major ports, terminals, and shipping line offices.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Neat appearance and professional behavior.
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Excel / documentation tracking tools (preferred).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • On-time collection and delivery of documents.
  • Zero document loss or misplacement.
  • Accuracy of document handover records.
  • Compliance with company and client procedures.
  • Positive feedback from operations and documentation teams.

Working Conditions:

  • Field-based role; daily visits to ports, terminals, shipping lines, and customs offices.
  • May require extended working hours during vessel operations or shipment deadlines.
  • Company will provide fuel allowance, communication support, and transport maintenance.
