Shipping Logistics Manager

The Shipping/Outside Services Manager leads and coordinates Grede-Meadville’s end-to-end shipping, logistics, and outside service operations to support production flow and customer delivery performance. This role is responsible for managing transportation scheduling, outside processing coordination, inventory movement, shipping documentation accuracy, and vendor performance related to external services. The position serves as a key operational partner to Production Control and Materials, while providing leadership within a unionized manufacturing environment. This role provides direction to both salaried and union-represented hourly team members.

Annual salary range is $70k-$85k based on experience.

What You'll Do:
  • Manage shipping, logistics, and outside service operations to support production flow and customer delivery commitments.
  • Coordinate material priorities and production flow for castings sent to outside service providers.
  • Schedule outside services and transportation to ensure adherence to committed timelines.
  • Communicate schedule changes internally and externally to assess customer and operational impact.
  • Support on-time delivery by proactively identifying and resolving material, capacity, or schedule conflicts.
  • Oversee preparation and accuracy of shipping documentation for vendor-to-plant and vendor-to-customer shipments.
  • Ensure accurate ERP System transactions related to shipments, outside services, and inventory movements.
  • Monitor vendor performance, capacity, and delivery metrics; escalate risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Manage vendor-held and in-transit inventory to support production and customer requirements.
  • Report daily shipment performance and coordinate closely with Production Control on priorities and constraints.
  • Lead departmental personnel and reinforce safe work practices and operational discipline.
  • Support APQP and new product launch activities related to outside services and logistics readiness.

What We Need from You:
  • 5-10 years of manufacturing experience preferred, with 3-5 years in a leadership, supervisory or coordination role related to shipping, logistics, production control, materials, or outside services.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, outside services, shipping/logistics coordination, and supply chain flow.
  • Experience with ERP systems, order entry, production transactions, inventory movement, and shipping documentation, Odyssey experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, make sound decisions quickly, and solve problems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across suppliers, customers, production, production control, and internal leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate supplier performance, schedules, transportation, and material flow to support on-time delivery.
  • Solid leadership skills with the ability to hold people accountable, maintain professionalism and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and critical-thinking skills, with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to work effectively within company systems and reporting tools.
  • Ability to work in a plant environment, including standing for extended periods, safely navigating operations, and lifting up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Knowledge of forklift operations, lifting practices, APQP/launch support, and cross-functional coordination is preferred.
  • Experience working in or supervising within a union manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Little to no travel is expected for this position
