Shop Foreman (Lead Mechanic)

Location: 4790 N. Cornelia Ave, Fresno, CA

I. Role Overview

Standard Truck and Trailer Sales is looking for an experienced Shop Foreman to lead our maintenance and repair team. You are a "player-coach"—someone who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty under a hopper trailer but can also lead a crew of mechanics with a positive, professional attitude.

You will be responsible for the physical readiness of our fleet, ensuring every unit that leaves the yard is safe, compliant, and built to withstand the rigors of the California harvest.

II. Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Leadership & Repair

  • Hands-on Maintenance: Perform and oversee daily repair, service, and structural maintenance on agricultural flatbeds and hopper trailers.
  • Quality Control: Inspect all completed work to ensure it meets company and safety standards before equipment is released to customers.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Lead all welding projects, including structural repairs and custom builds for the almond, pistachio, and wine grape industries.

2. Crew Management

  • Supervision: Lead and motivate a tight-knit crew of mechanics; provide daily guidance, troubleshooting support, and workflow assignments.
  • On-the-Job Training: Mentor junior mechanics and provide practical training on trailer systems, safety protocols, and shop equipment.
  • Safety Enforcement: Ensure the shop remains a safe environment, following all forklift and heavy machinery safety guidelines.

3. Shop Operations

  • Scheduling: Work closely with the Operations Manager to ensure equipment is ready by contracted pickup dates.
  • Field Service: Coordinate and perform off-site emergency repairs for customers when needed.
  • Tool & Uniform Care: Maintain shop tools and equipment (Company provides all tools and uniforms).

III. Required Skills & Certifications

  • Experience: 5+ years of proven success as a mechanic/welder in a related industry (Ag or Heavy Trucking).
  • Forklift Driving Experience
  • Certifications: * Welding Certificate (Required)
  • Physical Requirements: * Must be able to lift and transport +50 pounds.
  • Must have manual-hand-finger dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Must be able to work in harsh California summer weather conditions.
  • Soft Skills: A positive attitude and the ability to lead a "tight-knit" community of repairmen.

Schedule & Environment

  • Standard: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week.
  • Peak Season (May–August): Up to 60 hours per week and 8 Saturdays leading up to harvest to ensure customer success.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
