Kuvattur, India

Overview

The Site Engineer is responsible for the technical supervision, organization, and execution of civil construction works on site, with specialized focus and expertise in the design implementation and quality control of Compound Walls, Retaining Walls, and various Arch structures. This role ensures that all elements are constructed according to design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities & Specialization

1. Expertise in Compound Walls and Boundaries

  • Setting Out & Levels: Conduct precise setting out and surveying for compound walls and boundary demarcations, ensuring accurate alignment, levels, and compliance with property boundaries and easements.
  • Foundation & Stability: Oversee excavation, concrete pouring, and curing for wall foundations, paying specific attention to soil conditions and the structural stability of the base.
  • Reinforcement & Material Quality: Inspect and approve the quality and placement of reinforcement steel (rebar) for reinforced concrete (RCC) compound walls, including verifying the correct concrete mix and block/brick quality.
  • Retaining Wall Construction: Manage the construction of retaining walls (where applicable), ensuring proper backfilling, drainage systems, weep holes, and slope stability are executed per design.
  • Finishing: Supervise the application of plaster, finishes, and the installation of security features (e.g., razor wire, gates) on the completed compound wall.

2. Specialized Arch Construction Management

  • Interpretation of Arch Drawings: Accurately interpret complex architectural and structural drawings for arches (e.g., semi-circular, segmental, parabolic, three-centered), including dimensions, keystone placement, and centering details.
  • Formwork & Centering: Oversee the design, construction, inspection, and removal of specialized formwork (centering) required for casting or constructing arches, ensuring structural safety and curvature accuracy.
  • Load and Stress: Monitor material handling and placement during arch construction to prevent premature loading or stress that could compromise the arch integrity.
  • Quality Control: Conduct detailed quality checks on the masonry/concrete work of the arch, verifying joint thickness, bond patterns, and the finished aesthetics against the architectural intent.

3. General Site Engineering Duties

  • Technical Advisor: Act as the main technical advisor on site, providing guidance to foremen, supervisors, and subcontractors to resolve construction challenges.
  • Quality Assurance (QA/QC): Implement and monitor quality control procedures, conduct material testing (concrete cube tests, material inspections), and ensure all workmanship adheres to specifications and building codes.
  • Progress Monitoring: Track daily site progress, prepare Daily Progress Reports (DPRs), and communicate potential risks or delays to the Project Manager.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations, particularly for work at heights, LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), and excavations.
  • Resource Management: Coordinate and manage the allocation of labor, materials, and equipment to ensure optimal efficiency and adherence to the project schedule.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience as a Site Engineer, with demonstrable expertise in civil works, including dedicated experience with boundary structures and architectural features like arches.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong command of surveying equipment (Total Station/Dumpy Level) and ability to read, interpret, and implement complex architectural and structural drawings.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD and knowledge of project management software (Primavera/MS Project) is a plus.
