Function in the Job

Job Function

The Site Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the yard, ensuring safe, efficient movement of materials, equipment, and vehicles. This role manages yard personnel, coordinates logistics activities, maintains inventory accuracy, and ensures compliance with safety regulations.

Essential Duties

These duties include but are not limited to:

Operations Management
  • Oversee all yard activities including receiving, staging, loading, unloading, and dispatching materials to ensure all AMI standards are met.
  • Coordinate trailer movements and dock assignments.
  • Ensure yard organization for maximum efficiency and safety.
  • Monitor workflow and adjust staffing or priorities as needed.
  • Take all necessary steps to minimize costs and maximize profits.
Team Leadership
  • Supervise yard drivers, loaders, and support staff.
  • Conduct training on safety procedures and operational standards.
  • Manage scheduling, timekeeping, and performance evaluations.
  • Enforce company policies and safety compliance.
  • Responsible for performance appraisals for employees.
Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Conduct routine yard safety inspections.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and inspected.
  • Investigate and document incidents or accidents.
  • Involved in all employee meetings such as Safety, TQM, and SPC.
  • Maintains the highest Quality Standards in all areas of responsibility. Continuous Process Improvements.
Inventory & Equipment Management
  • Maintain 99.5 % inventory accuracy.
  • Track trailers, containers, and equipment locations.
  • Coordinate maintenance and repairs of yard equipment (forklifts, yard trucks, etc.).
  • Ensure proper documentation for inbound/outbound shipments.
Communication & Coordination
  • Work closely with warehouse, transportation, and dispatch teams.
  • Communicate delays, equipment issues, or staffing challenges.
  • Provide daily operational updates to management.

Required Skills

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in yard, warehouse, logistics, or transportation operations.
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and yard equipment.
  • Experience with WMS, TMS, or inventory systems preferred.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amount’s such as discounts, interest, commission, proportion, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
