Small & Microfinance Polices Manager - Risk Sector


Job Summary :

Support the bank's credit risk management by establishing, monitoring, and implementing credit policies and procedures for portfolio management. Providing policy enhancements to ensure balanced performance and profitability & collaborate with product, assessment, and sales teams in order to optimize the approval rates and deliver training and guidance to frontline staff.


Key Responsibilities :

  • Assist in product development initiatives, collaborate with the product and business teams to introduce innovative products, ensure credit risk requirements are met and contribute to the approval discussions.
  • Support credit risk analysis by monitoring credit exposure for small and microfinance products, evaluating the performance of lending and marketing campaigns, and identifying high-risk segments for further review.
  • Help implement and review product policies, working closely with relevant departments to ensure feedback from collections and business lines is incorporated, and assisting in monitoring system changes to align with credit policies.
  • Maintain credit risk documentation by updating the credit policy manual and assisting with the administration of the product policy calendar in order to track changes to lending frameworks and policy rules.
  • Prepare credit-related reports, supporting the creation of periodic Small & Microfinance risk packs, and alerting senior management to any benchmark breaches, including suggestions for remedial actions.
  • Participate in post-implementation assessments, support the review of the effectiveness of credit tests and policy adjustments, ensuring their alignment with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Review and assess smaller credit transactions, ensuring adherence to the credit policy, while escalating exception or high-value requests to senior management or relevant committees for approval.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory and internal credit standards, ensuring consistent application of credit policy rules, conducting periodic assessments, and working with Credit Operations to improve decision-making processes.
  • Coordinate with IT and product teams to ensure credit systems are functioning as required, assisting with system updates, and reporting any operational or credit risks that may arise during system or policy changes.
  • Ensure consistent application of credit policy rules & underwriting decision through post approval sample reports and train & assess Credit operations and other Credit committee’s performance periodically as well.


Requirements :

  • Strong communication skills to interface with internal customers.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills required to drive portfolio growth without compromising on risk.
  • Good knowledge of banking services, credit analysis methods, systems requirements and processes.
  • Good knowledge of SMEs Credit Standards and policies.
  • Good knowledge of local regulations & CBE guidelines for credit lending.
  • Good knowledge of the bank’s customer service standards.


Qualifications :

  • Relevant bachelor's degree is required & post studies/certifications are preferable
  • Minimum 8 Years of Experience
  • Full knowledge of the bank's credit products and services.
  • very good in English.
