Social Media Intern

Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and creative Social Media Intern to assist our dynamic management team. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social media/web management, content creation, and digital marketing strategies for a 20yr+ creative small black-owned business, Madusalon. The ideal candidate will be skilled in social media, eager to learn, and ready to contribute innovative ideas and strong skills to enhance our online presence. We are a team of community-oriented professionals seeking someone equally warm with strong people skills.

Duties

• Assist in the development and execution of social media marketing strategies across various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
• Create engaging content tailored for different audiences while ensuring alignment with brand messaging.
• Assist in rebranding strategies.
• Conduct SEO and keyword research to optimize content for search engines.
• Research, pitch, and utilize tools to monitor performance metrics and provide insights for improvement.
• Engage in social listening to track brand mentions and industry trends.
• Collaborate with the team on graphic design projects using Canva.
• Support public relations initiatives by drafting press releases and managing media lists.
• Participate in e-commerce campaigns by creating promotional content for products.
• Assist with video editing and photography for social media posts.
• Proofread all content to ensure accuracy and adherence to branding guidelines.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of social media platforms and digital marketing principles.
• Familiarity with tools such as Canva, Hootsuite, Buffer, Google Analytics, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator).
• Basic knowledge of SEO practices and web analytics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Coursework, experience, or portfolio in graphic design, public relations, or related fields is preferred.
• Ability to manage relationships effectively within a team environment.
• A proactive attitude towards learning new skills related to social media marketing and content creation.
• Previous experience in photography or video editing is a plus. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates looking to build their portfolio while gaining valuable experience at a community-centered boutique hair salon.
