Dancing Classrooms (DC) cultivates engaged learners, collaborative leaders, and inclusive spaces through the joyful art and practice of social dances. Through standards-based, in-and-out-of-school residencies, we strive to create a more equitable, just, and joyful world by dancing together. Made famous by the acclaimed 2005 documentary “Mad Hot Ballroom”, Dancing Classrooms has been a leader in social dance education for 30 years, partnering with hundreds of NYC schools to deliver its portfolio of programs to thousands of students in the NYC Metro area each year. DC has served over 750,000 children globally since its founding and currently supports 9 affiliate sites nationally.

Position Overview:

The Social Media position is a part-time, seasonal intern position or project-based consultant, depending on the candidate's qualifications. This position will receive training in and be responsible for contributing to engagement, research, and content for the organization's social media platforms and digital communications (Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, LinkedIn, Vimeo, Youtube). This includes engaging with and reporting about our online community, assisting in brainstorming and scheduling posts, researching current trends, light editing if applicable, collaborating to collect assets that strengthen our messaging (capturing some in-person content), and Youtube and Vimeo organization as needed.

A successful candidate is a creative, detail-oriented, tech-savvy self-starter with a passion for arts in education and eagerness to learn. We are looking for a candidate with skills working in: Google Drive, Vimeo, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and Events. Photography skills are a plus!

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create and distribute promotional materials across social media platforms
  • Research and engage with current social media trends to optimize DC's digital presence
  • Assist in managing the communication calendar and scheduling regular posts
  • Capture and edit photo/video content at in-person events for social media use
  • Draft and design social media posts for donor and fundraising campaigns, event announcements and follow ups, general marketing, and program communications
  • Engage with and report on DC's online community across all social media platforms
  • Collaborate on brainstorming sessions for social media content and campaigns
  • Organize and manage YouTube and Vimeo video content as needed
  • Provide support as needed to other Dancing Classrooms events including public and internal meetings such as Teaching Artist training, team outings, etc.

Location: NYC-based

Pay rate: $20 an hour/estimated average of 10 hours a week

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, and ethical conduct skills
  • Must be passionate about the mission and work of DC
  • Fluency in most of the platforms and applications referenced above and the motivation and technical know-how to quickly learn how to master a new program as needed
  • An interest and/or experience in arts administration, arts management, or dance education
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated team player who works well with diverse groups of people
  • Proven ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • An enthusiasm for arts in education and dance
  • Graphic design, photography, and video editing experience a plus
  • Ability to travel (drive or public transportation) to storage facility, in-person meetings, and events around the NYC metro area as needed
  • Access to a smartphone, computer, internet
