<Job Summary>
We are seeking an experienced Social Media Manager to lead and execute our campaign’s digital presence. The ideal candidate has a strong background in political or issue-based communications and a deep understanding of the Detroit landscape. This role requires someone who can move quickly, think strategically, and maintain message discipline while producing high-quality, timely content.
<Duties>
- Develop, manage, and execute daily social media content across platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.)
- Create and edit engaging graphics, videos, and written content aligned with campaign messaging
- Manage daily social media activities using scheduling tools such as Hootsuite and Buffer to ensure consistent posting and engagement.
- Monitor trends and respond quickly with relevant, on-brand content
- Ensure rapid turnaround on posts, especially for breaking news, events, and campaign updates
- Collaborate with the campaign team to maintain consistent messaging and branding
- Engage with followers by responding to comments, messages, and reviews promptly while maintaining a positive brand voice.
- Schedule and publish posts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Maintain consistent branding across all digital channels through proofreading, editing, and quality control of content before publication.
<Qualifications>
- Political or issue-based communications experience. Ideally someone who has worked with campaigns, advocacy organizations, or public policy messaging. It is critical that they know the landscape here.
- Rapid content production. Ability to turn around graphics, captions, and short video clips quickly when news, crisis or campaign moments arise.
- Platform fluency. Strong working knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and short-form video formats, including how content performs differently on each platform. Knows how to build or maintain a content library (photos, quotes, graphics, videos, b-roll).
- Message discipline. Ability to follow a campaign’s messaging framework and stay aligned with approved language and priorities.
- Basic graphic and video editing skills. Comfort with Canva, CapCut, or similar tools to produce simple but clean branded campaign visuals.
- Community monitoring and engagement. Ability to monitor comments, flag issues, and elevate anything that requires a response from the campaign.
- Content scheduling and analytics. Experience with scheduling tools and reviewing basic performance metrics to see what content is resonating. (They should know hootsuite etc... and can schedule in advance)
