About Us

Solmacher Solar Energy is dedicated to designing, delivering, and implementing advanced solar energy technologies housed in modular, lightweight structures. It serves commercial, industrial, municipal, and utility clients with on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid solar energy systems, helping them lower energy costs and reduce carbon emissions.

Role Overview

In this role you will be responsible for technical and commercial estimation of our solar PV systems, analyzing project scope, preparing detailed cost estimates, understanding technical components, collaborating with design, procurement and construction teams, and supporting bid submissions. Your technical insight and commercial acumen will help ensure that our solar projects are competitively priced, technically sound and align with our quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review project documentation (drawings, specifications, schematics) and develop detailed take-offs and cost estimates for solar PV scopes (modules, inverters, racking, electrical infrastructure, civil works, BESS if applicable).
  • Perform site assessments (or review site data) and identify technical/installation implications for cost, risk and schedule.
  • Prepare bid packages and technical/commercial proposals: compile estimates, assumptions, contingencies, margin, schedule inputs for submission.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, procurement teams and project managers to validate assumptions, evaluate vendor/sub-contractor quotations and integrate into budget.
  • Maintain and develop estimation databases, unit-rate libraries, cost benchmarking and value-engineering opportunities for solar project components.
  • Conduct risk reviews of estimates: identify technical/contractual/cost risks, apply contingencies, provide sensitivity analysis and support decision-making.
  • Provide support through tender process: attend meetings, present technical/estimate breakdowns, respond to clarifications and revise bids as needed.
  • Assist with project hand-over to construction/commercial teams by providing estimate basis, assumptions, rate breakdowns and cost structure to help enable project cost control.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil), Construction Management or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years estimating / technical engineering experience in solar PV projects (or broader renewable energy/infrastructure) preferred.
  • Strong technical understanding of solar PV systems (modules, inverters, racking/structure, electrical BOS, civil foundations) and how they interact with cost/installation.
  • Proven skills in cost estimation: take-offs, cost modelling, risk/contingency assessment, bid preparation.
  • Proficient in MS Excel (advanced functions), and comfortable with estimation software and drawing review tools.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, datasheets and to translate into cost & build logic.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ability to work with changing data/assumptions under deadline pressure.
  • Good communication and teamwork: able to engage with engineers, procurement, project teams and possibly clients.
  • Working level of English; Arabic is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel to site(s) in Qatar as required, and work flexible hours to meet tender deadlines.
