    West Woods Upper Elementary (Grades 5-6) is seeking a Special Service Paraprofessional with a late March start date. Position is 6.5 hours per day (not including 30 minute unpaid lunch), school year.

    Position includes 8 paid holidays, 12 sick days, 3 personal days. Position is eligible for health insurance, life insurance and long-term disability.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    A. Candidate should hold an Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma or its equivalent (i.e. Para Professional Assessment). Bachelor's degree preferred.
    B. Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers.
    C. Consideration will be given to the following:
    1. ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form.
    2. various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate's overall preparedness. Prior experience working with school age children is a plus.

    SALARY: Salary Scale - Paraprofessional $24.18 - $28.26 per hour dependent upon experience (per FPSEU contract)

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Special Service Paraprofessional will provide personal care/hygiene (i.e. lifting up to 50 pounds and toileting) and assists with medicine regimen. The paraprofessional also may provide a variety of instructional services and classroom support to staff and students. This includes carrying out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervising teacher-planned activities, assisting in the preparation of materials for instruction, and recording individual progress of students. This position exhibits a cooperative working relationship with teachers.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Supporting Instruction
    • Tutoring/one-on-one instruction
    • Criculating in classroom
    • Helping group instruction
    • Modifying instruction materials
    • Assisting students with technology
    • Assisting students with testing and assessments
    Documentation and Data
    • Observing and collecting data on students
    • Organizing (data, graphs, etc)
    • Recording student progress (including data)
    • Taking classroom notes
    • Taking attendance
    Student Management
    • Provides personal care/hygiene (i.e.lifting and toileting)
    • Assists with medicine regimen
    • Monitor hallways and/or study halls
    • Maintain on-task behavior
    • Corrects minor behavioral problems
    • PMT and restraint reaining
    • Escort students to other classes
    Clerical
    • Scheduling activities
    • Copying, stapling, sorting, etc
    • Operate media and classroom tools
    • Maintain equipment
    • Run errands

    • Handling records in a confidential manner
    • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor
    • May be asked to provide medical or personal care / hygiene which may require lifting up to 50 pounds
