Job Title – Special Education Teacher
Contract - 34 weeks
Guaranteed Hours - 37.5 hr.
Pay rate - $60/hr. to $62/hr.
Shift - 8:35am - 4:05pm
Experience - 1yr+
Location - Federal Way, WA

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with diverse learning needs. This role requires a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom environment that promotes the academic and social growth of students with disabilities, including those with autism, developmental disabilities, and other special needs.

Duties

• Develop and implement tailored lesson plans that align with IEP goals and state standards.
• Utilize effective classroom management techniques to create a positive learning environment.
• Collaborate with parents, teachers, and support staff to ensure comprehensive support for each student.
• Conduct assessments and standardized testing to monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
• Provide speech therapy, behavioral therapy, and early intervention strategies as needed.
• Incorporate learning technology into lessons to enhance student engagement and understanding.
• Address the unique needs of students with disabilities through differentiated instruction in subjects such as literacy, math, and physical education.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress toward IEP goals.
• Foster communication skills among students through various instructional methods including play-based learning and structured activities.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.

Skills

• Strong classroom management skills to maintain an effective learning environment.
• Experience in curriculum development tailored for special education settings.
• Knowledge of deaf education practices is a plus.
• Familiarity with early childhood education principles and practices, including toddler care and preschool experience.
• Proficiency in behavior management techniques to support students’ emotional and behavioral needs.
• Ability to work collaboratively with individuals who have autism or other developmental disabilities.
• Experience in childcare settings or daycare environments is beneficial.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
• Understanding of childhood development theories and practices related to special education.
• Experience working with IEPs, lesson planning, literacy education, behavioral health strategies, and standardized testing methods.
