Located in the heart of the community, our center proudly serves children ages 6 weeks to 5 years, fostering growth through hands-on learning, creativity, and compassion. We are now seeking a passionate, certified Special Education Teacher to join our preschool team and make a lasting impact in the lives of our young learners.

Position Summary:

The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized instructional plans for preschool students with special needs, including those with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs). The ideal candidate will provide a supportive and engaging learning environment that promotes each child’s developmental progress across cognitive, social, emotional, and physical domains.

This position requires collaboration with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to ensure all students receive the services and accommodations necessary to reach their fullest potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement IEP goals and objectives tailored to meet the needs of each student, in accordance with NYC Department of Education and state regulations.

  • Differentiate instruction and use adaptive teaching strategies to support children with varying learning abilities and developmental delays.

  • Maintain open and ongoing communication with families, providing updates on progress, strategies, and milestones.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to create inclusive lesson plans that allow all students to participate fully in classroom activities.

  • Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining detailed records and documentation as required by DOE standards.

  • Implement behavior support plans using positive reinforcement techniques and developmentally appropriate guidance.

  • Work closely with related service providers (speech therapists, occupational therapists, etc.) to align instructional goals and support student development.

  • Ensure compliance with all regulations under Article 47, DOE policies, and Beanstalk Academy’s operational standards.

  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions to enhance instructional effectiveness.

  • Foster a warm, inclusive, and respectful classroom culture that supports all children’s individuality and learning styles.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Special Education or Early Childhood Special Education.

  • New York State Certification in Special Education (Birth–Grade 2) or Students with Disabilities required.

  • Students with disabilities certification

  • Minimum 2 years of classroom experience working with preschool-aged children or children with special needs (preferred).

  • Strong understanding of IEPs, developmental milestones, and differentiated instruction.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both families and staff.

  • Passion for early childhood education and commitment to inclusion and equity.

  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum and NY State Early Learning Standards is a plus.

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
