    Position: Special Education Teacher- Tutoring Center

    Purpose: The Special Education Teacher assigned to the Tutoring Center provides IEP-aligned instruction, progress monitoring, service coordination, and documentation for students with disabilities who are receiving instruction outside of their regular educational placement due to suspension or disciplinary removal.
    For students whose removal constitutes a disciplinary change in placement, this position supports the district's obligation to provide services that allow the student to continue participating in the general education curriculum, make progress toward IEP goals, access required related services, and receive appropriate behavioral supports during the period of removal.

    Compensation/Pay Range: $44,500 starting or applicants current salary.

    Schedule: Full-time Part-time
    10-month (works student calendar)

    Paid hours/day: 7 hour 40 minute day including a duty free lunch of 35 minutes

    Essential Functions:
    • Reviews student IEPs, including present levels, annual goals, accommodations, modifications, related services, management needs, testing accommodations, and behavior supports.
    • Provides specially designed instruction and academic support aligned to the student's IEP and current coursework.
    • Coordinates with general education teachers, special education case managers, related service providers, school counselors, administrators, and CSE staff to support continuity of instruction and services.
    • Requests and organizes assignments, instructional materials, assessments, teacher expectations, and progress information from the student's teachers and case manager.
    • Implements and documents required IEP accommodations, modifications, supplementary aids, management supports, and applicable BIP strategies in the tutoring-center setting.
    • Progress monitors applicable IEP goals during the period of disciplinary removal and provides data to the case manager and/or CSE team.
    • Coordinates with related service providers and administrators to monitor, facilitate, and document student access to required related services.
    • Maintains documentation of student attendance, instructional services provided, work completion, IEP supports implemented, goal progress, behavioral observations, and communication with staff.
    • Communicates concerns regarding attendance, lack of engagement, missed services, instructional barriers, or behavioral needs to the appropriate case manager, CSE chairperson, provider, or administrator.
    • Provides documentation and input for CSE meetings, manifestation determination reviews, FBA/BIP reviews, and student reentry planning, as appropriate.
    • Supports the student's transition back to their original instructional setting by sharing information regarding work completed, work outstanding, progress observed, and recommended follow-up supports.

    Additional Duties:

    Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Administrator and other district office administrators.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles
    • Knowledge of school curriculum and concepts
    • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans
    • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
    • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed
    • Ability to organize and coordinate work
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and families
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance, professional growth and cultural awareness

    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others internal and external stakeholders
    Qualifications Profile:

    Certification/License: NYS Certification in Secondary Special Education

    Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in related discipline applicable to teaching assignment; Master's degree in related area preferred

    Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus; Experience working with a diverse population of students desired

    Demands, Hazards: Works in standard office and school building environments.
