Developing Potential, Inc. is currently hiring a full-time Special Education Teacher.

Primary Purpose:

This position was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing individuals' success in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living; supervising them within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and progress..

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge regarding disabilities is preferred.
  • Ability to assist in an organized set of activities per their individual plans.
  • Ability to assist in acquiring independent living skills.
  • Ability to assist with lifting, toileting, feeding, and other daily living skills as needed.
  • Ability to effectively work with adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Physical capacity to lift, prompt, transfer, and otherwise assist adults with physical and behavioral disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs).

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with various types of disabilities including intellectual disabilities, autism, and physical disabilities.

Education and Experience:

Missouri State Teaching Certificate

Special Education Certification

Developing Potential, Inc. is a nationally accredited CARF Day Habilitation program that began providing support services to adults with developmental disabilities in Jackson County in 1993. DPI’s program focuses on building strengths, fostering independence, changing lives, and developing potential. This mission drives DPI’s program services and the commitment DPI has to help individuals achieve an adult, dignified lifestyle.
