Sports Information & Marketing Coordinator

The Sports Information & Marketing Coordinator is responsible for overseeing athletic communications, media relations, and digital content for SUNY CCC’s Athletics Department while also supporting the College’s broader marketing and communications goals. This role manages athletics websites, statistics, historical records, and technology systems, and leads the creation of publications, promotional materials, and digital content related to athletics and student life. The incumbent coordinates athletic awards, reporting, and compliance with governing bodies, and provides support for game-day operations and event management to enhance the experience of student-athletes, fans, and stakeholders.

In addition, this position plays a key role in maintaining and strengthening SUNY CCC’s overall brand, advancing the College’s mission, vision, reputation, and strategic goals. Under the direction of the Director, the incumbent creates informative and timely content with a focus on telling the unique story of SUNY CCC’s students. Content is distributed through multiple communication channels, including websites, social media, press releases, email, television, and digital signage, targeting a wide range of audiences such as prospective and current students, employees, alumni, and community members.

Occasional meetings at different CCC locations and in the community is required; travel to conferences, games, and/or recruiting events is required. Prolonged time sitting/standing working with computers and monitors, ability to walk/move across campus including walking up and down stairs and for travel, ability to lift up to 25 pounds (occasionally may be more), repeated motions may include keyboard typing. Able to travel as needed. Typical office and indoor building environments, outdoor activity is required as related to travel and outdoor athletic and recruiting events. Essential Functions

Sports Information (40%) -


  • Media Relations & Communications: Serve as the primary liaison between the athletics department and external media outlets by proactively building relationships, coordinating interviews, writing press releases, and managing all public-facing communications to promote teams, student-athletes, and departmental initiatives
  • Website & Digital Content Management: Oversee the development, organization, and daily maintenance of the athletics website and affiliated digital platforms by ensuring timely updates, accurate information, engaging content, and consistent branding across all online channels
  • Statistics & Records: Accurately compile, track, and maintain all team and individual statistics while ensuring compliance with national governing bodies, and preserve historical records to support reporting, archives, and program storytelling
  • Publications & Graphic Design: Design, produce, and distribute high-quality digital and print materials—including game programs, media guides, social media graphics, and promotional content which effectively highlight athletic programs and enhance brand visibility
  • Awards & Nominations: Coordinate the identification, preparation, and submission of student-athletes and coaches for department, conference, regional, and national awards by gathering supporting materials, statistics, and narratives in a timely and strategic manner
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure adherence to all institutional, conference, and governing body regulations by managing required reports, maintaining accurate documentation, completing required compliance training, and supporting audits or information requests as needed
  • Technology & System Management: Manage and maintain athletics-related technology platforms and software systems including statistics programs, live streaming services, and content management systems to ensure efficient operations and high-quality output
  • Event Management Support: Provide game day and event support by coordinating statistics crews, media coverage, live streaming, and in-game communications to ensure a professional and seamless experience for participants and spectators
Content Creation (20%) -
  • Produce engaging content to distribute across various platforms (i.e. website, social media, print)
  • Produce stories through written and digital pieces that feature student-athletes and residential students
  • In conjunction with the Director of Marketing and Director of Athletics, populate and maintain an athletics content calendar.
  • Identify needs, generate ideas, and interact with students to gather compelling content
  • Coordinate with marketing staff to identify photo/video opportunities to find overlapping student-athlete stories/experiences beyond the playing field
Social Media (15%) -
  • Cultivate and grow the College’s athletics social media engagement in support of the College’s initiatives (i.e. retention and recruitment)
  • In conjunction with the Director of Marketing, assist with social media campaign strategies and initiatives
  • In conjunction with the Director of Marketing and Director of Athletics, drive cross-department (athletics) promotional initiatives
Photography/Videography (10%) -
  • Serve as the lead photography & videographer for athletics.
  • Secondary duties assigned for non-athletic events (i.e. STEM Day, Induction/Graduation Ceremonies, Women’s Empowerment Conference, etc.)
  • Collaborate with athletics staff to identify photo/video opportunities to promote and tell the student-athlete experience story
  • Adhere to privacy regulations such as Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, (FERPA); Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and photo release permissions
  • Monitor photography and video trends to optimize storytelling opportunities
  • Follow ADA compliance requirements.
Website (10%) -
  • Monitor updates to ADA compliance guidelines (i.e. website, PDFs, signage, digital displays)
  • Monitor website compliance checker reports, specifically athletics website (https://www.redbaronsathletics.com) and fix non-compliant items
  • Coordinate with student-athletes, athletics coaches and staff to gather content for digital recruitment pieces
Other (5%) -
  • Event Management Support as directed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and interest in intercollegiate athletics
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in the operation of photo and video cameras
  • Digital photo/videography (cameras, lighting, audio, setting)
  • Strong social media skills and knowledge of social media platforms, as well as photo, video and audio platforms
  • Demonstrated success using design and creativity to communicate effectively
  • Ability to effectively and creatively communicate with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of and willingness to follow trends/best practices in communications and marketing
  • Knowledge of content management systems/website maintenance
  • Experience with ADA compliance and privacy/security policies
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and demonstrate good judgment
  • Strict attention to detail and quality assurance
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral communication, organizational, and project management skills
  • Experience in Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, InDesign
  • Basic knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Analytics
  • Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner
  • Ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing, demonstrate effective listening skills, and display respect for and openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts
  • Ability to accept changes to job requirements, policies, workload, etc., as well as learn new methods, procedures, or techniques resulting from change with the ability to clearly approach problems and find solutions
  • Demonstrates support for the College’s goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally aware community and practicing anti-racist/biased behaviors
  • Proactively engage with annual training modules to maintain up-to-date knowledge of college policies, legal standards, and best practices. Completion of assigned mandatory annual compliance training is essential for this role.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in sports management, communications, journalism, broadcasting, marketing, visual arts, or related area
  • At least one year experience in the fields of communication, marketing, or journalism.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and ability to work occasional weekends/after hours
  • Must have valid driver’s license for travel to other campus sites and off-campus locations as required
  • Remote Internet access

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience with web writing
  • Experience in photo and video editing
  • Experience in sports events management
  • Experience working in sports information or athletics communications
