Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing the full spectrum of accounting operations within an insurance broking environment. This includes premium accounting, insurer settlements, commission reconciliation, financial reporting, VAT compliance, and internal controls. The role requires strong analytical skills, leadership capability, and in-depth knowledge of insurance brokerage financial flows to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate recording of premiums, commissions, brokerage income, refunds, and endorsements.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial transactions.
- Supervise premium collections and ensure timely remittance to insurers.
- Reconcile insurer accounts, commission statements, and premium bordereaux.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and coordinate with operations for recovery of outstanding premiums.
- Oversee accounts payable processes and approve payment schedules.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes.
- Prepare financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure proper accounting treatment of brokerage income and commission structures.
- Prepare and review VAT returns in compliance with UAE VAT regulations applicable to insurance broking.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal financial controls.
- Coordinate with external auditors and support audit processes.
- Provide guidance, supervision, and training to junior finance team members.
- Work closely with underwriting, operations, and management to ensure financial accuracy and transparency.
- Perform other finance-related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within an insurance broking or insurance company environment.
- Professional qualification (ACCA, CA, CPA, CMA – preferred).
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and UAE VAT regulations.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure.
