Job Overview

DFW Airport is seeking an experienced Senior Instrumentation & Controls Technician to support our world-class Energy & Utilities Services team. In this critical role, you’ll ensure reliable operation of advanced control systems and instrumentation tied to our thermal energy production, distribution, and ancillary systems—keeping DFW running 24/7.

What You’ll Do:

  • Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and install industrial control systems tied to chillers, boilers, water systems, and energy infrastructure.

  • Read and interpret specifications, diagrams, and schematics for instrumentation and control systems.

  • Test components with advanced equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters), perform bench repairs, and install safety monitoring devices.

  • Calibrate measurement instruments and maintain compliance with N.I.S.T. standards.

  • Participate in system design, upgrades, and modifications to improve performance and reliability.

  • Train and support Instrumentation & Controls Technicians while ensuring documentation of repairs and calibrations.

  • Serve as the point of contact during operational issues, keeping leadership informed of events affecting reliability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Instrumentation & Controls, Electronic Engineering Technology, or related field.

  • 5 years of experience with pneumatic/electronic instrumentation and control systems.

  • 2 years of industrial power plant experience (boilers, chilled water/HVAC, electrical distribution, or water treatment systems).

  • Formal training in instrumentation & controls.

  • Must hold one of the following certifications:

    • Texas Certified Wastewater Collection System Operator (Class I)

    • Texas Class D Water Works Operator certification

    • EPA Universal Refrigerant certification

  • Valid Class C driver’s license.

  • Ability to work rotating shifts, respond to call-outs, and pass medical, drug, and color-vision tests.

Key Skills & Expertise:

  • Expertise in troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of pneumatic, electrical, and electronic control systems.

  • Knowledge of high-pressure boilers, centrifugal chillers, and hydronic systems.

  • Skilled in use of electronic test equipment, hand tools, and programming (BASIC, Assembly, or similar).

  • Strong ability to read schematics, interpret diagrams, and document technical work.

  • Safety-conscious with deep knowledge of industrial hazards and precautions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of DFW’s Instrumentation & Controls Technician Training Program.

  • Additional experience in energy-saving system upgrades or large-scale utility plant operations.

Working Conditions:

  • Industrial environment with exposure to weather extremes, confined spaces, steam, and high-pressure equipment.

  • Frequent climbing, lifting (25–50 lbs), standing, and working with arms overhead.

  • Requires clear two-way radio communication, color perception for electrical wiring, and rapid response to emergencies.

  • On-call rotation outside of regular hours, including weekends and holidays.
