The opportunity:
The Sr. Manager, Insights & Compliance will lead the IT Solutions Insights & Engineering organizations in partnering with our stakeholders to become a more data-driven organization. They will be responsible for guiding the organization's strategy, implementation, and ongoing support of data and analytics initiatives. They ensure that data and analytics are leveraged effectively across the enterprise, bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions. This position will be responsible for partnering with the Insights and Engineering teams to drive the development of processes, documentation and training to support a standard approach to developing, accessing and leveraging data and reports across the organization. They will lead the documentation and communication of Standard Operating Procedures for analytics, including compliance and governance. This position will partner with business stakeholders to define, implement, and grow an Analytics CoE at WestRock that utilizes next-generation analytics tools to enable Smurfit Westrock to become a more data-driven organization.
This role requires extensive experience in developing and presenting Analytics strategies, partnering, and aligning with business stakeholders and understanding business systems of record and associated processes, and an extensive background in using next-generation Analytics tools to automate processes, prototype solutions, develop analytics data models and other outputs, define KPI’s, and visualize data.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

Define Standard Operating Procedures, governance policies, and best practices for accessing enterprise data, data retention, and other key required controls

Define design patterns and develop solutions to standardize the way enterprise data is accessed and transformed for Analytics
-
Lead the process to define, document and implement appropriate controls across our data & analytics platforms to meet compliance requirements
-
Manage insights portfolio, providing central demand intake visibility for insights team, ensuring appropriate review and integration of solutions
-
Manage and maintain all required documentation to support the Data & Analytics and Engineering team
-
Lead analytics communications processes, including SharePoint site, newsletters, and trainings in support of communicating our Data Strategy to the organization

Co-chair the Analytics CoE and define CoE roles, responsibilities, cadence, and organizational communications.

Define the roles, responsibilities, structure, and cadences of Self-Service Analytics Steering Committees and, when necessary, provide technical guidance. Become a “champion of champions” by identifying and leading business unit Analytics Champions within the CoE.

Define Standard Operating Procedures and Data Governance requirements for promoting Self-Service Analytics solutions to a production environment.

Develop organizational competencies and define opportunities for expanding the use of next-generation data visualization and predictive analytics tools at WestRock.
What you need to succeed:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Finance, Economics, or related quantitative field.
-
At least 10 years of experience in a related field
-
10 years of experience in Analytics, including data analysis, data modeling, data querying, and data visualization through use of analytics process automation and data visualization tools and languages such as Alteryx, SQL, Power BI, Qlik, MS Power Platform or Tableau.

5 years of experience in manufacturing, finance, and/or transportation industry.

Strong data mining and machine learning background.

Analytical and detail oriented with the ability to prioritize, execute, and deliver projects on time.

Must be comfortable with unstructured, fast moving and constantly evolving high growth environment.

Strong knowledge of IT General Controls (COBIT, SOX, etc.) and Data Governance.

Strong communication and data presentation skills; ability to communicate with data-driven stories.

Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies, tools, and techniques.

Willingness to stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices.

Ability to work with technical and non-technical team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Business degree with 10+ years of experience in an Analytics function within Information Technology.

Experience with AWS (cloud-based) data architecture and tooling
-
Experience with machine learning and predictive analytics.

Proficiency in at least one statistics/data analysis package, such as Spark, Python or R.

Strong proficiency in SQL.

Experience with deploying software solutions in a live, production environment.

Solid understanding of Business Finance, including budgeting, forecasting, financial statement preparation and analysis, and GAAP accounting.

Understanding of paper manufacturing and sales, including Mill and Converting Plant operations.
