-
Implement and monitor security controls such as firewalls, NAT, VPNs, reverse proxies, and bastion hosts.
-
Configure and maintain load balancing solutions with understanding of L4 vs L7 load balancers.
Virtualization & Containers
-
Deploy and manage virtual machines using VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM; handle VM creation, resource allocation, and snapshots.
-
Understand and articulate the differences between virtualization and containerization.
-
Build, run, and manage containers with Docker; use Docker Compose and manage container registries (DockerHub, Azure Container Registry).
-
Deploy and scale workloads on Kubernetes, including pods, deployments, services, scaling, ingress, and service mesh solutions (Istio, Linkerd).
Cloud Infrastructure (Azure Focus)
-
Architect and manage cloud resources using IaaS, PaaS, SaaS models; select appropriate regions, and understand SLAs.
-
Provision and manage Azure compute (VMs, Scale Sets), storage (Blob, Disk, Files, Queues), networking (VNets, NSGs, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute), and databases (Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
-
Implement monitoring and identity solutions using Log Analytics, Application Insights, Azure Active Directory, and RBAC.
-
Employ Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using ARM templates, Bicep, or equivalent.
Infrastructure as Code & Automation
-
Manage source code and infrastructure with Git and GitOps practices.
-
Automate resource provisioning with Terraform or Pulumi.
-
Configure systems using Ansible, Chef, or Puppet; automate Windows infrastructure with PowerShell DSC.
-
Script using Bash and Python for automation and orchestration.
-
Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployment.
Application Runtime Management
-
Deploy and manage web servers (Apache, Nginx, IIS) and reverse proxies.
-
Administer databases—both SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis).
-
Integrate and manage queueing and messaging systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, Azure Service Bus).
-
Implement caching solutions with Redis and Memcached.
-
Monitor application and infrastructure health using Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK/EFK stack.
Security & Compliance
-
Implement and manage identity and access management (AAA, SSO, MFA, federated identities).
-
Secure secrets with SSH keys, Vault, or Azure Key Vault.
-
Manage certificates (TLS/SSL, PKI).
-
Ensure compliance with standards such as ISO, SOC2, HIPAA, and GDPR.
-
Perform container image scanning and enforce runtime security.
Observability & Incident Response
-
Set up and manage monitoring for logs, metrics, and traces; leverage tools like ELK, Splunk, Azure Monitor.
-
Demonstrate understanding of reliability metrics—SLA, SLO, SLI.
-
Participate in incident management, follow ITIL basics, conduct blameless postmortems, manage tickets, and drive change management processes.
