A Store In-charge with a mechanical engineering background is responsible for managing a store of mechanical parts, equipment, and tools, ensuring efficient inventory, proper storage, and timely issuance to support engineering and construction projects. Key duties include inventory tracking, stock control, maintaining equipment, and coordinating with engineering teams, while also performing administrative tasks like report generation and adherence to safety standards. Responsibilities
- Inventory Management: Maintain an accurate and detailed inventory of all mechanical equipment, tools, and materials. Receive, inspect, and record incoming items, and ensure proper labeling and categorization.
- Stock Control: Monitor stock levels, reorder supplies as needed to prevent shortages, and implement a "first-in, first-out" (FIFO) system to minimize waste.
- Storage and Organization: Ensure all mechanical items are stored in a safe, organized, and secure manner to prevent damage or theft.
- Issuing and Dispatch: Fulfill and document requests for materials from the engineering and other departments, ensuring the correct parts are issued according to project needs.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance and service on store equipment and tools, and assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical issues as they arise.
- Reporting: Generate and maintain daily store reports and other administrative records, often using ERP software or manual systems.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all store operations comply with safety and regulatory standards.
- Coordination: Liaise with mechanical engineers and other project stakeholders to support system improvements and provide technical guidance or support.
Qualifications and skills
- Education: A degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field is often preferred, but a background in a related technical or construction field can also be sufficient.
- Experience: Experience in a mechanical storekeeping role, with a strong understanding of mechanical parts, equipment, and inventory management.
- Technical Skills: Mechanical troubleshooting, maintenance management, familiarity with diagnostic tools, and the ability to read technical documentation.
- Soft Skills: Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
