EYL 365 Project is currently accepting applications for SSL Youth Educators for the 2025-26 programming year. Our organization is seeking passionate and experienced SSL Youth Educators who have a strong interest in Social Justice and Racial Equity Arts Education. SSL Youth Educators will provide in-school and/or after-school residency opportunities, generally between 9:30am - 4pm and| or 3:30 - 9:00 pm for 1.5 to 2 hours, at DCPS Ward 6, 7 and 8 partner schools, transitional housing units and recreation centers. As part of this position, you will be responsible for providing and delivering advanced interactive and fun SSL lessons to youth ages five to fourteen in a creative, structured and engaging environment. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Spanish Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for students of all ages. This role requires effective classroom management skills and the ability to engage students in the Spanish language through innovative teaching methods.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing conversational classes where pronunciation and important words and phrases are taught.
- Teaching writing and Spanish composition classes.
- Teaching students about Spanish culture, which may include festivals, traditional food, and dress, and social conventions.
- Fosters a safe and nurturing learning environment.
- Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines that are aligned with the school’s overall vision.
- Develop and implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards.
- Thoughtfully plan daily lessons and implement specific strategies to meet the needs of all students, providing extra support, enrichment, or variation of work when necessary.
- Demonstrate strong content knowledge.
- Create a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment.
- Reflect on successes and areas of growth as a teacher, seek to improve performance, and respond to feedback.
- Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions.
- Invest parents and families in their children’s academic success through regular communication.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
- Commitment to education
- Fluent in both English and Spanish
- Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish or related field
- Minimum of two years prior teaching experience
- Previous teaching experience, reliability and dependability essential.
- Strong bilingual communication kills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage students effectively.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in lesson planning
- Capable of working independently, following directions, and showing initiative
- Proficient with computers and applications such as Google Drive and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect sensitive records

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
- Master’s Degree in Spanish or related field
- Direct experience with Spanish/Hispanic culture is highly desirable
- Experience with Integrated Performance Assessments is highly desirable
- Proficiency with Windows or Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software
- Advanced experience (2-5 years of experience) facilitating/teaching middle and/or high school school-aged youth, working with racially and ethnically diverse students
- Holds high expectations for each student and works to foster student achievement through building individual relationships
- Enthusiasm and passion for mentoring others and making change in communities
- Ability to communicate effectively with citizens, staff, parents, young people, volunteers, and community groups
- Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
- Commitment to student life
- Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice
- Professional practice and ability to model contemplation as part of intellectual exploration
Instruction:
- Providing instruction (development of skills in arts disciplines consistent with EYL 365 Project Blueprint) and through the arts (the achievement of academic goals as outlined in a school’s curriculum) by:
- Teaching and planning for 2 in-schools per week and/or possibly as many as 4 after schools per week;
- Developing long term project-based unit designs in collaboration with classroom teachers;
- Assessing student learning based on learning goals and objectives;
- Organizing at least 2 sharings of student work with teaching partners and TA colleagues at the school.
- Working in close collaboration with classroom teacher partners to:
- Plan lessons and projects during one in person 45-minute planning session per week (and via email and phone as well, when necessary);
- Share skills with the teacher to build capacity for arts instruction at the school;
- Co-teach lessons in which both TA and teacher partner have clear roles and responsibilities for generating student learning;
- Coordinate at least one trip to a DC cultural institution and/or one guest artist per class with a connection to learning in the classroom.
EYL 365 Project Teaching Artists are highly skilled artists and educators, committed to creating equitable learning spaces through collaborative teaching practices and social justice pedagogy. They report directly to the Program Director and are supported by EYL 365 Project Department Heads and Program Coordinators. They work closely with classroom teachers, school administrators, and teaching artists to positively impact school communities.
*A note: After schools are typically not co-taught with classroom teachers but are designed in collaboration with the school administration.

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
