Title Staff Accountant

KPIs Accounting and Finance task metrics, focused on operational efficiency and profitability, including revenue recognition and cost control functions

· BeWell Retail at 17 Broad Street, Merrimac, MA: 1%

Essential duties and responsibilities

Summary. The Staff Accountant is a member of the on-site Finance team within the company’s Administration Department, reporting to the Controller and working across all company departments and locations. The Staff Accountant has no direct or indirect reports and is a key individual contributor.

The Staff Accountant works with the Controller, CEO, and department heads to ensure company operations and associated records are accurate, auditable, and maintained in compliance with federal, state, local, and company requirements. The Staff Accountant will oversee all accounting functions and serve as a point of contact for vendors and contracted services, including the Property Manager, Production Manager, and Retail Manager. The Staff Accountant provides accounting and clerical support to management, using QBO to process business transactions and reconciliations, e.g., AP/AR, cash receipts/disbursements, payroll processing, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaids.

The Staff Accountant is required to be a licensed Agent of BeWell’s state-issued, medical and adult-use cannabis licenses, in compliance with Cannabis Control Commission and all related federal, state, and local regulations. A training program will be provided to achieve such a license. The Staff Accountant is a role of trust with the highest level of security credentials, expected to model professional, responsible behaviors within the company and industry.

1. Accounting and Finance Duties

a. Accounts Payable: processing invoices, preparing cash disbursements, following up with vendors, and resolving discrepancies promptly

b. Accounts Receivable: preparing customer invoices, processing receipts, producing statements of accounts, collections on overdue accounts, recording sales, and recognizing revenue

c. Fixed Assets: Properly identifying fixed assets, creating supporting schedules, and booking depreciation

d. Payroll: Processing of employees’ time cards, Recording Payroll Entries, and reallocating them to proper cost centers

e. Inventory and Cost of Goods Sold: Identifying proper timing and classification of inventory and preparing supporting schedules to facilitate the matching principle.

f. Prepaids and Accruals: calculating, documenting, and recording prepaids and accruals.

g. Preparation and assistance on the cash projection and budgeting process.

h. Preparation, reconciliation, and analysis of various accounts and Financial Statements.

i. Ad Hoc Projects: year-end tax support, sales tax support, and other various ad hoc projects.

2. Operations duties: As a member of the Administration team, provide general support for the continuity of operations of business systems and processes, such as those listed below. Training and third-party support are provided for BeWell business systems.

Administration

· QuickBooks Online (QBO): Accounting Package

· Gusto: HRIS and payroll

· Connecteam: Scheduling and time clock

· MS365, OneDrive/SharePoint, MSOffice

· Safety and Security systems: Access Control, Surveillance, Burglar, Fire

Production and Retail

· Dutchie (Inventory Management and POS)

· METRC (System of Record)

· RFID and barcode

· Debit terminals, ATM machines

· ID scanner

Physical requirements

· Ability to work at a desk for an extended period

· Ability to stand, walk, walk upstairs, stoop, bend over, reach, crouch

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for 100 feet

· Ability to maintain office equipment, e.g., fill the copy machine with paper, clear a paper jam, etc.

Skills and qualifications

· A Bachelor of Science with a concentration in accounting and/or related accounting experience is required for the staff accounting position.

· Ability and willingness to learn about cannabis operations, including administration, compliance, cultivation, processing, distribution, and retail activities in compliance with medical and adult-use cannabis regulations in Massachusetts.

· Time management and ability to prioritize daily tasks and manage ad hoc projects timely and accurately.

· Software skills QuickBooks Online, MS365 Suite, METRC, Dutchie, , or ability to learn; Must be proficient in Excel (Pivot tables, X Lookups, SumIf).

· Problem-solving abilities able to spot issues and participate in the resolution of issues. The expeditious communication of issues using the English language, either verbally or in writing, or both.

· Organized and detail-oriented, ability and willingness to proficiently use Outlook, review one’s own work accurately, and use tools such as a “To Do list”

· Minimum age 21 years.

· Ability to pass all required background checks and complete all required training, including but not limited to: Responsible Vendor Training (RVT), General and Administration Department company policies and procedures.
