Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. This vital role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial health and integrity of our organization. As a key member of our accounting department, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate general ledger records, performing balance sheet reconciliations, assisting with regulatory reporting, and supporting the monthly close process. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and experience working in a regulated financial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger and maintain accurate supporting documentation.
- Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts, including cash, loans, deposits, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Monitor the institution’s daily liquidity position and cash balances to ensure adequate funding for operational and settlement activities.
- Process and reconcile chargebacks for returned deposited items, including branch and mobile deposits, ensuring accurate posting and timely resolution.
- Process accounts payable transactions, including invoice review, general ledger coding, approval routing, and timely payment to vendors.
- Maintain accounting and perform reconciliations for ancillary loan product sales, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and reconciliation to vendor reports.
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, including accruals and adjusting journal entries.
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items, discrepancies, and unusual account activity in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with vendors and members to research and resolve payment, billing, and reconciliation issues.
- Assist in preparing financial reports, internal schedules, and documentation required for audits and regulatory examinations.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, institutional policies, and applicable accounting standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiency.
Financial Institution Specific Responsibilities
- Assist with preparation of quarterly regulatory reports, including supporting schedules for Call Report filings
- Reconcile correspondent bank accounts, ensuring accurate settlement of daily activity
- Support accounting and reconciliation of ACH, wire transfer, and other settlement transactions
- Assist with accounting and reporting for the institution’s investment portfolio, including interest income tracking and reconciliation
- Review, approve, and reconcile remote deposit capture transactions, ensuring accurate posting and timely resolution of exceptions.
- Manage and process debit card printing requests, ensuring accurate tracking and adherence to security procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 2+ years of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Adobe
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

- Experience working for a bank, credit union, or financial services organization
- Experience with core banking or accounting systems
