Staff Accountant

Key Details:

  • Pay: $72,500 – $82,500/year DOE
  • Location: Remote in select states - must reside within the following areas: AZ, OR, WA, UT, NV, CA, WY, MT, ID, NM, CO, El Paso TX
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm PPT

Who You Are: You’re a patient, service‑oriented accounting professional who communicates clearly, asks thoughtful questions, and brings tact and professionalism to every interaction. Qualifications include:

  • 2+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles
  • Experience with AP, AR, GL, reconciliations, and reporting
  • FERC regulatory reporting knowledge required
  • Ability to understand utility industry-specific account coding requirements
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal to moderate supervision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with accounting software systems
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting preferred
  • CPA, CMA or equivalent certification preferred

What You’ll Do: As a Staff Accountant, you’ll support the full range of WPP’s core accounting activities including AP, AR, general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and monthly close, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting. You’ll review and process invoices, route approvals, post payments, reconcile vendor and member accounts, prepare journal entries, and assist with billing, payroll‑related reconciliations, and benefit reporting. You’ll also contribute to internal controls, documentation, audits, and process improvements, helping refine workflows and build a strong, well‑structured accounting environment as the organization continues to grow.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • General Accounting, close support, and regulatory reporting
  • AP/AR, GL, and reconciliations
  • Payroll & benefits support
  • Internal controls & audit
  • Process improvement
