Staff Accountant

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our company is looking for an experienced staff accountant to complete daily, monthly and annual tasks in the retail industry. This candidate must be a self-starter, quick learner, organized, possess a strong attention to detail. The ability to work independently within a team environment and perform V-lookups or Pivot tables are necessary. The candidate will ensure transactions are accurately accounted for in the financial and inventory systems. The candidate will also cross train in other areas of accounting. Currently the candidate will have 3 store assignments and additional joint venture assignments. As more stores are added the selected candidate's responsibilities will increase and/or subject to change.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2-4 Years of Full Cycle Accounting
  • Multi-Location experience
  • Quickbooks experience required
  • Intermediate Excel required
  • Microsoft Retail Management System experience and/or familiarity with POS systems
  • Retail Accounting experience a plus
  • Accounting Degree preferred
  • Intermediate computer skills

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS and DUTIES

  • Input daily sales from POS report into excel spreadsheet and post to the general ledger
  • Report daily sales to store managers and management
  • Monitor daily sales activity: including cash payouts and store discounts
  • Analyze daily, weekly, monthly and annual sales. This includes monthly and quarterly reporting to upper management
  • Work with accounts payable specialist and accounting manager to keep general ledger data up to date: including account coding, closing end of year and rolling over accounts to new fiscal year and setting up new accounts
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
  • Post journal entries - including but not limited to bank reconciling items, inventory adjustments and inventory transfers
  • Post daily bank transactions
  • Assist accounting manager with monthly goal setting for 3 locations and track goals vs actuals each month
  • Preparation of balance sheets and P&L's
  • Analyze P&L's monthly: monitor revenue and expenses
  • Reconcile monthly inventory from POS to the general ledger and communicate with the stores and operations any inventory concerns
  • Reconcile inventory after quarterly counts and after inventory received for new store openings
  • Support for new store openings: assist with opening new credit card and bank accounts
  • Track cash deposits
  • Special projects as needed
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment of small to medium size. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however some file management is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

POSITION TYPE and EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
