Staff Accountant II

The Downs at Albuquerque is currently seeking an experienced Accountant II to join our team. The successful candidate will share in the responsibility of ensuring the integrity of accounting information by researching account issues for compliance and maintaining quality control over financial transactions, data, and financial reporting.

The Downs at Albuquerque is located in the heart of Albuquerque, just minutes away from Uptown and Nob Hill. The casino features a modern, Las Vegas-style gaming experience with 65,000 sq. ft. of entertainment space including more than 750 slot machines, a contemporary lounge hosting live entertainment, a deli, and a gourmet restaurant. Our recently renovated racing venue offers live horse racing 3 months out of the year with year round simulcasting and wagering on the top races from around the world. For their enjoyment, guests at the grandstand have a selection of food and beverage venues from which to choose, including several bars and snack bars, a VIP lounge, and gourmet restaurant.

Responsibilities Include:

· Obtain, verify, consolidate, and analyze financial data

· Prepare and input journal entries

· Prepare audit work papers for assigned areas of responsibility

· Assist with Gaming, External, and Tax audits

· Reconcile balance sheet accounts as assigned

· Prepare and file Gross Receipts Tax

· Assist in developing and documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls. Follow through with monitoring of same.

· Assist Controller with preparation and review of financial statements.

· Monitor and process payables and receivables related to business with other tracks, horse owners, Racing Commission, and Horsemen’s Association

· Mentor Staff Accountant

· Assist in special projects

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in Business or Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university preferred

· At least seven years general ledger accounting experience

· Intermediate Excel Skills

· Intermediate knowledge of major accounting software packages for general ledger. PeachTree/Sage 50 preferred.

· Strong accounting, analytical and problem solving skills

· Strong organizational skil

· Strong technical accounting skills

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all staff levels throughout the company

· Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate and maintain good working relationships

· Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment and prioritize assignments.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal guidance and supervision

· Solid knowledge and understanding of GAAP

· High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

· Must be a self-starter

Successful candidate must be able to pass New Mexico Gaming Control Board background check and obtain NMGCG and Racing Commission licenses.
