Position Summary
The Endoscopy Nurse is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality, and compassionate nursing care to patients undergoing gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures. The role involves pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure assistance, post-procedure monitoring, patient education, and ensuring adherence to safety and infection-control standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Care
- Perform comprehensive patient assessment before endoscopy procedures.
- Prepare patients by explaining the procedure, obtaining consent, and verifying clinical information.
- Monitor vital signs and assess the patient’s physical and emotional status.
- Provide post-procedure care, including monitoring recovery from sedation and managing complications.
2. Procedure Assistance
- Assist gastroenterologists during endoscopy procedures such as:
- Gastroscopy
- Colonoscopy
- ERCP
- Bronchoscopy (if applicable)
- Sigmoidoscopy
- Other diagnostic or therapeutic procedures
- Handle endoscopic instruments and ensure proper functioning before and during procedures.
- Maintain sterile technique and follow infection-control policies.
3. Equipment Management
- Prepare, operate, and troubleshoot endoscopy equipment.
- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of scopes and instruments in accordance with international standards (e.g., SGNA, JCI).
- Document and report any equipment issues promptly.
4. Documentation
- Accurately document assessments, medications, sedation details, procedure notes, and post-procedure outcomes.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with hospital policies.
5. Patient & Family Education
- Provide pre- and post-procedure instructions, including diet, medications, and follow-up care.
- Educate patients about potential complications and when to seek medical attention.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- Valid nursing license (DHP or eligibility for licensing if in Qatar).
- Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in Endoscopy, Operating Room, or Critical Care.
- BLS required; ACLS preferred.
