Staff Software Engineer, YouTube Data Science

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming in Python and SQL.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • Experience in one or more of the following skills: Logging, Data Analytics, Technical Infrastructure, Big Data, Pipeline Management, Generative AI Agent, coLaboratory.

The YouTube Data Science (YTDS) team influences and informs YouTube’s product and engineering leadership to improve decisions with science. In this role, you will take initiative to develop projects and collaborate horizontally across YouTube, working with feature teams and stakeholders.

You will use tools (e.g., Gemini) to support data-driven initiatives.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $207,000-$300,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.
  • Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables on high-impact projects.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.
  • Provide engineering skills to support Data Science projects.
  • Work with the YTDS team and our stakeholders to unblock our data engineering needs, ensuring that the data powering our analysis meets requirements.
