STEAM / Coding / Robotics Camp Counselor

Next Level Kidz provides advanced enrichment programs with a combined focus on STEAM classes and Sports training. Next Level Kidz recognized Fort Mill families were in need of programs for kids ages 6+ that provided both high-level education, quality sports training and critical benefits like accessible transportation and safety. It was founded with a goal of simplifying the busy life of the modern family and advancing children’s academic and physical education creating a balanced lifestyle.

As a STEAM / Coding / Robotics Camp Counselor, you are the spark that ignites a child’s curiosity. You will lead groups of students (ages 6+) through hands-on project-based learning, focusing on robotics construction, game design, and coding logic. This is not a traditional "supervision-only" role; you will be an active mentor, troubleshooter, and coach, helping campers navigate the engineering design process and build digital worlds. Your goal is to ensure every camper leaves with a sense of accomplishment, a new skill, and a smile.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery: Facilitate engaging lessons in Robotics (VEX IQ), Coding (Scratch, Java, Lua, C#/C++), and Game Design (Roblox, Minecraft, Unreal Engine).
  • Mentorship: Guide campers through the "build-test-iterate" cycle, helping them troubleshoot mechanical issues in robots or bugs in their code.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, organized, and high-energy environment for groups of 15–20 campers.
  • Safety & Supervision: Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all campers during STEAM activities, snack breaks, and transitions to sports/outdoor play.
  • Communication: Provide updates to parents on camper progress and help foster a positive, inclusive "team" culture among students.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Educational Background: Currently pursuing or holding a degree in Education, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field OR program related experience
  • Technical Proficiency: Foundational knowledge of block-based coding (Scratch) and/or text-based languages (Java /Python/Lua). Familiarity with robotics hardware (specifically VEX IQ ).
  • Experience with Youth: Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children in a camp, school, or coaching environment.
  • Problem Solving: The ability to think on your feet—whether fixing a broken gear ratio or debugging a Roblox script.
  • Soft Skills: High energy, patience, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts in a way that is accessible and exciting for a 7-year-old.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the VEX IQ Robotics competition ecosystem.
  • Advanced knowledge of Roblox Studio, Eclipse IDE, or Unreal Engine
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
