Key Responsibilities
1. Labor Management & Site Execution
- Frontline Supervision: Directly lead and manage gangs of steel fixers and helpers to ensure daily production targets for reinforcement are met.
- Work Allocation: Assign daily tasks to the steel fixing team based on the priority of work fronts and ensure every worker understands the specific rebar requirements and safety protocols.
- Material Coordination: Coordinate the timely delivery of rebar and binding wire to the work area, ensuring the team has the necessary tools (cutters, benders, tying tools) to work without interruption.
- Productivity: Monitor and drive the pace of steel fixing to align with the weekly look-ahead schedule, reporting any delays or material shortages to the Site Engineer immediately.
2. Quality & Technical Compliance
- Drawing & BBS Interpretation: Expertly read and interpret structural shop drawings and Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) to ensure steel is fixed to the exact diameter, spacing, and lap length required.
- Inspection Readiness: Ensure that all reinforcement works are completed to the required quality standards (proper spacing, cover block placement, and secure tying) before calling for an internal inspection.
- Accuracy: Verify that the reinforcement is correctly positioned and secured to prevent displacement during concrete pouring.
3. Safety & Documentation
- HSE Enforcement: Enforce strict adherence to UNEC’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies. Conduct daily Toolbox Talks (TBTs) and ensure all workers are wearing appropriate PPE.
- Safe Work Practices: Monitor high-risk activities such as manual handling of heavy rebar and working at height, ensuring all safety measures are in place.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate daily logs of labor attendance, material usage, and work progress. Report any site incidents or near-misses immediately.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Secondary School Certificate or Technical Diploma in Civil Engineering/Construction.
- Experience: Minimum 8 to 12 years of experience in steel fixing, with at least 5 years as a Steel Fixer Foreman on large-scale high-rise or mixed-use projects in the UAE/GCC.
- Technical Skills:
- Expert knowledge of reinforcement types, BBS interpretation, and fixing techniques.
- Proven ability to manage large, multi-national labor forces (30+ workers).
- Ability to read and understand complex structural blueprints and technical details.
- Language Skills: Fluency in Hindi/Urdu and basic English is essential for communicating with the workforce and management.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership presence, meticulous attention to detail, and the physical stamina required for extensive site-based supervision.
