Steel Fixer/Foreman

Position Summary A Steel Fixer installs and secures reinforcing steel (rebar) in concrete structures according to engineering drawings and specifications. The role requires reading reinforcement drawings, cutting/bending/tying rebar, assembling reinforcement cages, and coordinating with concrete teams to ensure structural integrity and timely completion of work.

​Key Responsibilities

- Read and interpret reinforcement drawings, bar schedules and layout plans.

- Measure, cut, bend and shape rebar to required sizes and specifications using manual and powered tools.

- Tie, weld, or mechanically fasten rebar to form reinforcement cages, mats, columns, beams, slabs and footings.

- Set and secure bar chairs, spacers, supports and other devices to maintain correct cover and positioning.

- Assemble and install prefabricated rebar cages and meshes as required. - Ensure reinforcement conforms to structural tolerances and specified cover dimensions.

- Coordinate with concreting crews to sequence work and inspect reinforcement prior to concrete pour. - Inspect materials for damage or defects and report issues to supervisor.

- Maintain tools, equipment and work area in clean, safe condition.

- Follow site safety procedures, use personal protective equipment (PPE), and participate in safety meetings.

- Complete required documentation (e.g., daily logs, material usage, inspection checklists).

Qualifications & Experience

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

- Proven experience as a steel fixer / rebar worker (typically 1–5+ years depending on role level).

- Ability to read reinforcement drawings, bar schedules and basic construction drawings.

- Proficient with rebar tools: cutters, benders, tying tools, pliers, levels, measuring tapes.,

- Experience using power tools and small welding equipment (if required).

- Physical ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, and perform repetitive manual tasks.
